F150 is the best selling vehicle in the US for what, 40 years almost?

Even mid-size trucks go after F150 sales trying to offer something that fit owners needs instead of the F150.

Similar to how someone who wants a Double Cab Long Bed isn't forced to buy an auto trans?

It's a comment on "its not like you're being forced to buy one" (hybrid/electric truck).

Folks don't understand electricity, so their scared of it. Its like witchcraft almost to most people.

The Tesla truck is quite fugly. Quite fugly.

Has anyone actually ridden in one of their cars? Their fucking amazing.

I install charging outlets and Tesla wall chargers in my city for Tesla vehicles. My company is one of two in a major Ohio city rec'd by Tesla to install charging outlets or their Wall chargers.

We run wire to customers garages, mount either a 14-50R outlet or the customer can purchase a complete Wall Charging unit from Tesla.

(I even watched one customer order a Wall Charger, and a dude from Tesla pulled up in the driveway 30 minutes later and dropped said Wall Charger off.)

Until they come up with a 600 mile battery, no thanks. Even then, some Tesla chargers already take a 100A. circuit. Most home electric services aren't big enough to add that much load, or even half that. So another $1000 or so to change that, plus endless $100+ higher monthly electric bills. Yours may vary, haha.

Here's another little known fact.. the bigger a charger gets, the less efficient it becomes. Their wall charger is around 80% efficient, which means you are charged for 100% of the electricity, but only getting 80% through the charger... instant loss of 20% that you have to pay for. Charging that huge battery overnight in the garage while my family sleeps close by? I'll pass.

Confident that if there were such a vehicle that rock crawling wouldn't be it's forte. Yes, electric motors can generate lots of torque at 1 rpm and that, in theory, would be great for offroading. But I highly doubt the underpinnings would robust enough to bang on it.

It would probably be geared toward the fowl weather (all wheel drive) pick up bags of mulch at Home Depot kind of user....not that there's anything wrong with that.

    Think of a $100k Ridgeline.

I have a good friend who is a renewable energy electrician, and he used to work for a company that offered turn-key self sufficient charging stations. It was basically a big battery pack, a vertical residential wind turbine and some solar panels. The turbine and panels would charge the batteries whenever they were making power. If the batteries were at full charge it would dump any extra power to the grid which the utility would have to pay for. It could be configured to allow the grid to charge the batteries if there was a lack of wind and solar power available, or this could be turned off. Anyway, you would plug your electric car into the battery pack overnight and wake up to a fully charged car. This was not cheap, but he told me that depending on where you live - electric rates, sun, wind, and average gas prices - the ROI would be 4-6 years. After that, you would possibly make a few bucks a month against your electric bill, and at minimum drive free from any fuel expenses as long as you had an electric car. If we could get our government to wake up and offer some incentives to modernize rather than just insisting that we burn everything that we can dig up, it could be achievable for many people.

I'm not saying that this is the solution, but it shouldn't be discounted either. The range of e-cars will go up, and e-trucks show lots of promise. Regardless of what we may want, this is the way the world is going. We can either lead or let the Chinese do it.

Your post I quoted seemed to suggest any electric powered vehicle , didn't realize you were talking about the Tesla truck specifically

Its coming . Building codes here in BC are moving towards a code requirement to at least rough in the infrastructure for EV charging and grid tied net metering with the goal of the BC step code being that buildings constructed to the 2030 BCBC be net zero

I don't think any of the big UD automakers are adventurous enough to design something that would actually work. What I see from them are repackaged versions of the same old shit with a few extra toys added. The committees that decide what gets prototyped are still mired in that concept. Meanwhile companies based in countries that are further along in their implementation of alternative energy can leverage that to a consumer base already more receptive to it. In this country if it isn't a loud, stinky gas hog it has to be inferior.

Yeah...I was referring to a potential Tesla truck. Not seeing them producing anything more than an AWD "softer" rig.....nothing rock crawling capable

Car companies are starting to recycle their old EV batteries and converting them to home storage batteries. I know I've heard Renault and Tesla talk about this.

Reading a lot of these replies it sounds like people need to learn the difference between a concept and some guy who's terrible at Photoshop mashing up cars together and throwing it on the internet.
