    factory towing package
    I have an 08 Tacoma double cab TRD shortbed with the towing package. The manual and stickers say my ratings are:
    gross vehicle weight - 5350
    gross combined vehicle weight - 11,100
    gross rear axle weight - 3110
    gross front axle weight - 2770
    Max towing - 6500
    Max tounge - 650

    I recently went to the landfill and weighed my truck with a full tank of fuel and it was 4,040. I have been researching buying a travel trailer and want to get the best bang for my buck. Can anyone tell me what kind of towing range I have with these ratings? Is 5100 lbs loaded out of the question?
    Also, does anyone have a number for the leaf spring TSB or where can I find more information about it.
    Thanks for any help.

    6500lbs is your towing capacity. That's the max you should tow.

    If the travel trailer weighs 5100lbs (off the lot/without cargo), then you can add approximately 1300lbs of stuff inside or on the travel trailer = not to exceed 6500lbs total that you are towing.

    GCVWR = 11,100lbs

    GCVWR is the total amount of weight you can have in the entire package (truck, trailer, cargo, EVERYTHING).

    Say for instance, your travel trailer = 6,000lbs (loaded w/ cargo). Your total truck weight (including passengers, cargo, gas, everything!!) must not exceed 5100lbs for a total of 11,100lbs.

    The Janster said it all. With an '08, I would go with air bags. You can inflate them when you tow for a level ride. Search ride rite or air lift.
