    Hey,

I modded my mud flaps, replaced the bottom with flexible rubber that I also made slightly shorter than original. I took some big 18 wheeler 1/4" rubber flaps and trimmed them down, then bolted them on and used washers on both sides to keep from pulling through the rubber, used a nylon lock nut on the the backside. If you bolt the outsides out far enough it will hug the curve of the hard plastic one and keep it from sailing too. Hope this helps. Nice sliders btw, I will eventually be ditching the tube steps for those.

    Mainhunter,

Like the mud flap idea. Wonder if I could somehow get the old standard Toyota 4WD stenciled on the flexible part. Hmmm, something to think about.

Dbld, on the HD-SKO's I followed Richard's instructions. The primer isn't necessary but I used Rustoleum primer anyway, then rustoleum hammerd black. I was very happy with the result. The paint seems pretty durable.

If you know your going to wheel in the rocks then rattle can is your only real option. My understanding is that powdercoating is an expensive option and if you use your sliders to protect your truck the the powercoat will be damaged very quickly.

My touchups are contingent upon how often I wheel my truck. Approximately 3-4 times a year I'll make them real nice and brand new again.

About touchups... Just get a piece of cardboard and insert it between the sliders and the truck body and spay paint. You will not hurt the truck. I had some concerns about over-spray but they were unwarranted.

About the mudflaps... I wish I could keep mine on for city driving and then remove them when I am trail side. The reason for this is because sometimes its better to have them on the truck, for legal reasons as you cited, but also because on flat gravel roads, if you haul ass, the sliders will get rock blasted.

Here is a picture of my sliders after getting rock blasted on a 40 mile gravel road:

You can also see where the slider protected my truck at Mengel's Pass (Death Valley, CA).

Here is a pic after one section was just repainted:

I hope you find this helpful.

    WOW!
I’m surprised at how much paint is gone from driving gravel roads. It’s sort of the same effect as sand blasting. I found a spray-on bedliner product at a local auto parts store. I think I may try spraying the frame welds and support brackets with it and see how it olds up. Thanks for he info.

Nice sliders those things are sweet.
A friendly tip I picked up along the way next time you lift you truck up with the high lift open your door just in case the jack tips. This will save your door. :)

Very nice looking sliders. Are these the Deluxe model as listed on Stubbs website? Also, what is the finish? Doesn't look like a hammer finish in the pictures.

    Thanks
