What’s this Costco discount? Do you really get a discount for just being a Costco member?? If so... why?

If you negotiate well you can get just as good as Costco on your own.

Yes. Costco has their own car buying service where they predetermine vehicle prices. The dealer receives an updated sheet on pricing every month and dealers must adhere to that sheet. However, there is only one dealer per area that is Costco certified. If you're also interested in accessories Costco provides members buying through their service an additional discount on them. I believe membership type matters though. I have an executive membership and Costco offers 50% off accessories up to $200 discount.

If you don't want to negotiate or don't have any negotiating skills this is the way to go. I've read mixed opinions but I plan on using Costco pricing as a bargaining chip to get an even lower price. Worst case scenario, I just fall back to Costco price.

Get your own pricing using Toyota's builder, a 3rd party auto website, or calculating your own from the info in this thread:

It absolutely sucks that Toyota is killing off the 5sp manual 4cyl.

That's classic combo that put 'em on the map with their trucks...in my opinion. It's like what the Z-car did for Nissan.

My Taco is my daily driver and the automatic 6cyl is smooth and easy, but my prior truck was a manual 4x4 that was a lot of fun to drive.

Good luck....and yes, Costco can help you out if you want to avoid the back-and-forth sales experience. Some love to haggle and beat 'em down.....some just rather let buying services handle it. Your call.

Agreed......once the deal is dang near wrapped up......demand this mat. Fits perfect....shit doesn't slide around. Love mine.

Yeah, I got 1000 in July for my TRD OR, and blue book for my 2013 Baja, so I'd be surprised at 3000, but start there. They won't show the door, they salivate over Tacoma customers, at least in New Mexico. As someone else suggested here, go to Edmunds and Kelly's and see what invoice is. That's what I always do.

I figured so. Costco only gets me 2.5k off msrp for a SR5 DCLB 4x4 (7570). My negotiations over email has gotten me 3.6k+ off msrp. Not much meat on the bone for an SR5 with tow and matts it feels like.

4cyl is underpowered, and the gas mileage is negligible over the 6cyl. Why bother? ... unless you want an oversized grocery cart.

They gave you a 4x4 5spd as a rental? That’s surprising lol. What’s your truck in the shop for?

I don't know about with the automatic, but the real world driving feel between the v6 and 4 is neglible to me and I saved 8k. And get to build the truck with the parts I want.

Not for everyone I guess but I feel like people saying the 4 is underpowered haven't driven it. Or maybe are younger guys who feel the need to punch it here and there for no reason. Only place I noticed more power in the 6 is after 4k. Under that I actually prefer the 4.
