The tune is a decent difference. You just have to actually use the throttle to see it. It’s not some supercharged big block but there are times I have to let off a little because I’m not used to the extra down low acceleration.

I’ve only tried shift map A which I think is the most aggressive and the shifting really isn’t they great. I can’t stand driving in D and have gone back to manually shifting.

I was doing just under 30 and it had shifted into 4th (common) and I was at like 1500rpm. I also can’t stand waiting for a downshift.

I’ll probablt try other maps but for now the extra power is great. Shifting is suck.

    Yeah. 10 something.

But he’s posted the mileage will drop for a bit. So we’ll see.

I’m bad for gas mileage though. For anyone else’s I’d take my numbers and add 1-2 mpg.

So whats your 2 week review on the OV tune? Worth it, not worth, MPG gains?

Well. I’m about 300-400 miles into it.

    1. Gas mileage. I’d say it’s the same. It’s lower but not out of the range I’ve seen. So I consider that a wash

    2. Shifting. There are three maps. I’ve only tried the most aggressive map I so I can’t comment on the others. I might eventually try them though. Keep in mind I haven’t tried the other maps but for map C I don’t really see much difference between the ssp and this tune. Drive is so annoying for me I have a really hard time using it. With the tune mine will get stuck in fourth for no reason near 4K rpm. I’ll be on flat ground and even letting off it won’t shift. That’s with some throttle. Light throttle. No throttle. I’ll to either shift into sport and up one or let off and lose 10-15 mph then it will shift. Other times off the freeway it’ll shift way into fourth even at speeds around 30 resulting in 1200 or so rpm. Manual shifting it I don’t mind the transmission.

    3. Power. This is where I noticed the change the most. There is a noticeable increase under peak power (where you drive the most). When I first got it there were places I’d have to let off because it was accelerating so much quicker than I was used to - as much as you could with a v6 Tacoma. It still puts a smile on my face driving.

    4. Throttle response. Nice increase here. Toss up between the pedal commander and this. The pedal commander I liked a little more. But was too aggressive at times. The tune is a nice balance between stock and too extreme.

Would I buy it again. I’m not sure. It’s enjoyable but I don’t drive mine around full throttle enough to really commit to the purchase. I don’t regret getting it. But if I had a time machine I might go back and tell myself to think twice.

Lastly it could be my tires and weight but I really didn’t get the same effect as some of the others that have raved about this tune. If you read the original thread you’ll know what I mean. It’s nice but doesn’t turn the truck into a magical flying unicorn.

If you have money to burn or slightly let smolder then I’d get it. If you have a list of mods you want that are around 800 bucks. I might pick a different one first.

Awesome, gets me thinking do I actually "want/need" it. I've read the thread and people love it but most people don't have builds with as big of tires like we do. You especially. My main reason would be for mileage but since you didn't notice a difference I might pass on this thing. I only hate driving my truck down the highway. I'm sure I would get great mileage if I take off my skids, bed rack and rtt. But that's too much work lol

I’ll check the mileage when I leave work, but I don’t expect a change at all. At least from what I’ve seen.

And forget about removing all of that stuff!

When I got mine weighed to get it registered it was almost 6k pounds. Probably over that slightly now.

Haha. I wonder what mine is.

I think it was 58xx when I weighed it. Since then I’ve added 37’s with beadlocks, bed rack, fridge slide, rtt, awning. Second bypasses and bumpstops. That’s about it.

How are you so fucking heavy lol. I have everything besides rear bumper. 37's over 35's cant vary too much in weight I assume. Maybe 10lbs heavier a tire.

    Hmm.

The only different things I have...

Bed cage. Big ass rear springs. Full steel skids (ifs, transmission, t-case) I don’t know if you all of those? We both have sliders.

My wheels 34 and tires are 71. Then I have almost a pound of balance beads in there. I think your tires are pretty heavy though aren’t they?

Yeah my tires are 76.7 also double rows of balancers(TECH DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING). Wheels are 24.5 so you have 10lb difference in wheels.

Full skids and my IFS is 1/4in vs 3/16th

Bed Rack is probably 100lbs. Its all the same DOM tubing mobtown uses on their sliders.

You have longer springs but they cant be much different. I guess we do have about the same crap but I thought the access cab would be lighter.:notsure:

Oh yeah ours are pretty similar parts-wise. I looked it up and stock yours is ~120lbs heavier than mine stock. Not much.

If I could go back I would have done aluminum skids and maybe even aluminum sliders (I think mobtown was going to make some).

And of course done the rear differently which would have saved me the bedcage weight.

I think mine too me a few hours. Most of that was building the harness and running everything to the rear. Most of my stuff is in the back.

All of my lights were already wired and working too. So that saved a little time. Just had to swap old wire to new wire.

I can say it’s reallt easy to install. But hard to make look good. If I were to redo it I would mount it vertical against the fender or something. As you can see there are a lot of wires to try and tuck.

Nice work! That’s how I want to redo mine. I think once mine is complete I’ll redo the wiring. I’m pretty much done with adding any electronics. Outside of maybe...dual batteries, flexible solar on roof, front camera.

I hate seeing wires. This isn’t the best pic but a coupe cars ago I had a WRX (500awhp) that I shaved and tucked the engine bay. That was a HUGE pain.
