Trying to decide on which tire size to go with..

    I have 3rd gen 5100s up front on the 3rd notch and a 1.5” toytec rear block w 5100s.

Swapped my dads LT265/70/17 Rugged Trails on Raceline 17s. Unsure of offset, but i have about 3” of room on either side of the tire in the front from touching. Plastic.
When measured side to side, only about .25” difference in overall height.

    I’m getting SCS Ray10... Should I go 285/70/17???

Seems like a bunch of room to me.

Ugh i know.. I’ve read the 1,000 threads and posts on CMC etc.

Part of me says 275? My dealer is having a Buy3get1 for $1 this month but only on 265/75/16 and 285/70/17.

I'm not sure how the LR UCA's will have any impact at all...

Go 285 and be happy the first time. I know from experience. Actually, get a grinder and go 35's, the bug will get you eventually. :)

    Haha you so funny!
I need functional but a little more ground clearance wouldn’t be a bad thing :)

I looked up the specs on both tires and these BFG’s are supposed to be 1” taller overall.

Keep in mind both tires have roughly 15k on them.

Get 285 and don’t look back.

I just went up about 3 inches with 5100s on 2nd notch, OME887 coils & AAL rear. My 265/70-17 KO2s look under sized to say the least. Though I’ll likely wait to upsize until after the holiday shopping season.

That looks great. What did you have to cut to fit the 285s?

You know deep down inside you want those dirty5s. Jokes aside 285s are a great size for function and style and won't totally kill your mpgs.

Lr ucas can adjust to clear tires.but for the 400$ for them do a cmc for 200-300 first. I bet you wont haveto do any of it though

If you want your truck to look cool (get compliments, etc), get 285's. Going from 265 to 285 for performance is a very small increase, but there is a fairly substantial mpg decrease. I'd say stick with 265. 275 would be great, but as you mentioned it is a weird size and so you usually don't get the programs or discounts.

You all have great points. And I appreciate them.

    I can get a set of 16” Ray 10s and 265/75/16 ko2 for 1350 OTD.

Very tempting as upgrading to a 17” w/ 285s is around the 16-1700 range + worse mpg.

I liked the ride better on 265’s. But truck looks way better on 285’s and despite its slower im not switching back. So you cant go wrong either way. Just pick one and run with it

Its hard to go wrong with the 16 inch rim KO2 size. Unfortunately I have 17's, but craigslist recently someone was offering 5 brand new 265/16 for$800, pretty much a steal. I'm running 265s and it is rough seeing a coworker parked next to me with his 285's (4runner). The amount of "wheeling" we both do is minuscule, however, and the two extra inches of ground clearance really is not going to matter in the long run aside from ascetics. I do enjoy my 21 MPG mixed (I drive like an old lady so save money), while he is struggling. Note that everyone in this thread keeps talking about how the truck looks. I'm married and have two kids, could give two craps less. If that's your thing, get the 285's or you'll never be happy.

    This.

I have brand new 265/70-17 KO2s and am kicking myself in the ass for not getting 285s. I'll probably sell them and get some STT Pros.
