5100's and TSB

To do this do i just bring my truck to the stealership and tell them. i bought my truck 3 weeks ago so does that mean they are sending the trucks out with the rear end already fixed. should i just bring them a pair of 5100's and tell them to install them set at 1.75 and fix the rear end?

 

Say this: "The ride is very harsh and the rear end bottoms out under small loads."

And yes, do it all at the same time: alignment is free after the TSB and you'll need one after the front 5100's anyway so kill 2 birds.

 

so if i do that how much actual lift will i get? a few inches? what size tires can i put on after front 5100's set at 1.75 and the rear tsb?

 

You'll be about 1.5" higher. You can fit 265/75-16 tires, about a 32" tire.

 

Be careful about what the dealership will charge you to put your own parts on. They wanted to charge me over 300.00 to put mine on after doing the rear TSB.
I have scheduled my local 4X4 garage to put mine on next week for 100.00, then the next day the rear spring TSB is scheduled- and I'll get the needed alignment done with that.

 

So has anyone else gone this route with adding the 5100s to the front only with the rear spring TSB? I'm thinking about doing this on a 2010 TRD off-road double cab. Did the dealer give you any trouble with swapping out the front shocks for you since the TSB does not technically cover removing the stock shocks in the TRD's case? How much did they charge you? Love this place - best source of information out there!

I did this... See before and after photos with measurements in my profile photos.

I only got about 1" of lift fron the TSB... I have the 5100s set at 1.75 and it is pretty level. I am considering adding 1 to 1.5" of lift to the rear because I like the factory rake to the front. Just not sure how I want to do that yet.

The dealership put the 5100s on all 4 corners while they did the TSB for $160.00.

When I first had it done I had the stock tires... I bought new Mickey Thompson ATZs in 265/75/16 and now I have a noisy tire on the road and the steering is a little squirrly around big trucks and uneven lanes... After reading up on this I wonder if the dealership really did the alignment or if they used some kind of factory settings that did not take into account the 1.75 lift in the front. I am planning on taking it somewhere else to get the alignment checked.


Overall I like the look of the truck with the 265s and I love the look of the tires but they are pretty noisy for an AT tire. I wish I had went a different route on the tires. The ride quality is good.... not harse or stiff like I was worried about. If my tires were quieter and the steering was more sure I would be thrilled.

I just hope I dont need UCAs to correct the steering.

i wanna get 5100's and put 32"/33" tires on my stock 17" rims.. what tire size/specs should i get?

Im looking for an inexpensive but meaty looking tire.. any suggestions?

 

Check your caster settings, that is what the wandering twitchy steering is. Most don't have issues with caster unless going 2.5 or more. My 5100s are set on 2.5, had the caster issues and LR UCAs fixed all that. Just save up and do it is my suggestion if the caster cannot be set right. They are beefier than the oems, worth it IMO. Also pay for lifetime or at least a year alignment thing so you can have it aligned for free afterwards every so often. Comes in handy when adding suspension mods down the road too.

 

IIRC, 285/70/17 should put you in that range but as far as inexpensive AND meaty???? keep saving because those 2 things don't come together.... depending on your definition of inexpensive.

 

This size will look good but keep in mind you will need wheel spacers to run 285's on the stock rim.

 

Not sure where you are located but I have brand new Mickey Thompson ATZs on mine I would sell... I gave $900+ for them... would take $750... I have put about $150 miles on them. I drive too much interstate for them.

Very good looking "beefy" tire.
