Does anybody know if Toyota has been informed of this issue yet?

And BTW thank you! Great preventative maintenance!

Is there a trick to get the plastic clips off the inside of the wheel well without breaking them? I'm used to the center-push plastic snap pins. Am I supposed to twist or something? Any help appreciated.

Not sure if this is how but for mine I just felt behind and you could feel a slight piece of the clip piped out so I just flushed it with the rest and it popped out

Just did this mod over the weekend. Truck is 7 months old and I see rust at weld joints by where it drains. pickingup some cleaner and then repaint it.

Not sure if you remember, but do you recall what size that barb connector was? Mainly what size you used for going into the existing drip hose.

I did the same on mine:

    IMG_1404.jpg

For anyone that wants to know, I used a 3/8" to 5/8" adapter barb fitting. The 3/8" side going to the drain tube was pretty tight, so be warned.

I did not like the raw tube sticking out, so I added a hose fitting and a stainless steel screen on it:

Overkill, I know... but, I wanted to make sure crud and critters did not get in the tube and wanted it to look decent.

Nicely done. Well thought out with reguards to small critters crawling up into that nice nest that you've made for them.

We had wasps crawl up into my the drain tube on my wife's Prius and subsequently die. Of course the little wasp corpse blocked the tube, which backed up into the car and pissed onto the passenger side floor mats. Figured out what it was and made a point to spray some bug and mold killer up the tube every year or two to prevent recurrence. The mold killer helps in high humidity areas when you run your A/C a lot; definitely don't want any mold to grow in your vents.

I liked your idea for spraying some cleaner every now and again to keep mold and crud down. Probably going to add that to my list of stuff to watch out for.

This is what I'd like to know. I feel like they'd have some response for some trucks rusting after only a couple months off the lot...

This was a problem on the 2nd Gens as well... so I'm betting they know.

I did not see any rust on mine (knock on wood). I could not see the inside of the front inner rail, but the top looks good and you can see that in my pic above. I'm rather happy mine looked pretty decent after I saw what Uptown2k had.

Would love to meet the idiots responsible for that design... Actually create water and drip it on the frame where the exhaust system heats the frame. Hard to get any dumber.

Did that tube routing work for you? I started down that path, but got worried about heat from the exhaust. Have you had the chance to really heat that thing with an extended idle under a hot sun with no wind?
