I took my '99 Honda to a Jiffy Lube for an oil change because at the time, my garage was full of stuff and I couldn't fit the car inside.
After the oil change was done, I checked the dipstick and the color of the oil was about as dark as coffee. I spoke with the manager and he said it was normal for an engine with that many miles. He said they'd replace it again but would also have to charge me again.

    Stay away by all means

If you do not mind them using "Bulk recycled oil" in your vehicle go ahead and take your ride to them. I would not let them touch anything I drive.

Not sure what they have to learn about taking a drain bolt out of a new truck versus an old truck.

It’s monkey work, not skilled labor.

I took my first Honda there once. The hood hinges were at the front by the radiator instead of by the windshield. So I was able to watch the guy while he did his checks. On my paperwork he checked off that he checked the air filter, brake fluid, washer fluid, etc. But I could clearly see that he did none of those checks. Also the guy in the pit tightened the oil pan wrench so tight I had to use air tools to get it off the next oil change. Also had a argument with the manager when I mentioned that the attendant didn't do his checks properly. Had a argument with the staff and was accused of being a liar. Last time I went to Jiffy Lube.

Not jiffy lube, but some random other 15 minute oil change place... I couldn't do it myself because I was on a road trip and it seemed really inconvenient. Looking back I should have figured out a way. The assholes couldn't find the right drain plug gasket so they put one on that was obviously too big, and rammed it with an impact gun. This was on a Subaru Forester. It leaked oil the rest of the trip. I bought the right one and changed it myself when I got home, and have since been reusing the same gasket and changing the oil myself with no issues. Why they didn't just reuse the old crush washer when theirs was obviously the wrong size, I will never understand. I disputed the charge and wrote them a really bad review which is still up.

    Best choice.

I had one on my two past trucks as well. Great tool all cars should leave the factory with one.

Absolutely nothing unique or difficult about an oil change on a 3rd gen. It's the same way every 2GR has always been since late 2004 when the 2GR debut in the Avalon.

In fact, except for the non VVT-i 1GR, most all of Toyotas engines use a cartridge filter...and have for years

The 3.5 in the Taco is not special.

The only thing that would be considered special about the Tacoma is that the skidplate needs to be removed for a oil change. Big Deal!

If you've been happy with the dealer you were going to just go to them. They have deals all the time and aren't that much more expensive then jiffy lube because they have to compete with them. But just make sure your not paying full price. Thats who they make their money off of.

Also not sure where the oil filter is in the new tacoma, but in the 2nd gens it was super easy. Get a fumoto oil drain plug and then you'll never have to worry about stripping the oil drain plug.

I don't support scammers, Their whole business model is taking advantage of people who aren't mechanically savvy.

Yeah OP if you search jiffy lube on youtube there are pry plenty of news organizations that go undercover and expose the jiffy lube charging for things they never do.

I'm lazy, and I'd never use a quick lube service, I think I'd drive with no oil before using Jiffy Lube.

When you go to Jiffy Lube you're letting a high school drop out, stoner numb-nut kid work on your car. Kid probably can't even wipe his own ass, but he's going to do an oil change on your car. Enough said.

I'm going to do the YouTube search to see the shenanigans. I never realized how widespread crappy they can be. I just assumed that there might be a few bad places here and there.
