What size spacer should I run with OME 881s on 5100s to get a little closer to a 3” lift? I have a 2001 Ext cab 4-cyl. I’m currently running the 5100s on the highest setting and want a little more lift and ride quality. I’m on stock coils right now and will set the 5100s to the bottom setting when installing the 881s. Thanks.

Your ride quality is suffering because you have the shock set too high, putting too much preload on the coil. Unfortunately for you, adding lift and increasing ride quality at the same time isn’t going to happen.

I guess height... but I figured the OME coils could give more height as well as comfort over the 5100s cranked up all the way.

I think I forgot to mention that I am on stock coils right now. I’ll edit the post.

I was thinking either a 1/2” spacer from Headstrong or a 3/8” spacer from wheelers.

If you would’ve read my post, I have the 5100s at the highest setting with the STOCK coils which gives me about 2-2.5” of lift. I’m going to be switch the coils out for 881 coils (while setting the 5100s to the lowest setting) and a top plate spacer to get a little more lift while increasing the ride quality. My question is, what size spacer will I need to get to put over the 881 coils?

881 coils, installed on OME shocks (not bilsteins) are often run with a 1/2" top spacer. This combo is recommended by various manufacturers to get the full 3" lift.
I ran this at first and it is not ideal.

What size spacer did you run and what were your problems with the setup? Also, what are you using now?

1/2" spacer will net about 1" of lift.
Problem is it overextends, or forces the LCA into a position where it has minimal down travel. You'll get an interesting ride over speed bumps and minor potholes that has been called "clunks over bumps". It sucks.

These trucks have a limited amount of wheel travel in the front. You are not able to change the wheel travel at all, just where you sit in that range of motion. As you lift the front end, you start to ride at the bottom end of the down travel. Clear as mud right?

Currently running OME with 882 coils, no spacers. I have been happy with it for a few years now and have no desire to change it.

I got my terminology messed up then. I meant a spacer that nets 1/2”, so it would be a 1/4” thick spacer. I said it that way cause I think that’s how they have it listed on Headstrongs website.

For good ride quality, do not lift your truck more than 2.5" over stock.

Wasn’t sure where to ask this so I guess I’ll just put it here. How do you guys get accurate hub to fender measurements? Maybe it’s just me, but it’s a pain because my tire has some bulge as in it sticks quite a bit out from the hub and also from the fender. It’s a 33x12.50 on a 15x8 wheel. Here’s a couple of pics as well. 04BD6C2C-AD54-47DB-9628-F28F1D71A647.jpg3F126461-73E1-4854-94B6-D5D95BE700E6.jpg

Got my 881's installed, 5100 on bottom setting. Gained a little over 3/4 inch, over the stock springs on the middle setting. I've got about 3/4in. of rake front to back, with my 1.5 aal.

What size tires? Looks good, I like the stock steel wheels.
