Edit- worked great on a 5 day desert trip. Didn't move and didn't leak on a road that flipped my full, secured, Yeti over.

Will you be able to access the water easily in the front of the bed? I'm sure that's much more secure than the bed rails though

Yeah it will be accessed from the side, that's another good thing about the canvas top.

It worked well out in the desert this last week, never moved or leaked.

    However...

Paint hides it for now. It's a good reminder that even moderate speed is dangerous

So as you can see above, we made it out to the desert. It was a great 5 day trip along some new roads.
My friends 1st gen tundra had some issues, his new exhaust mani, melted the shift cable housing and he got stuck in park. I used a BFH to move the linkage.
Finally tried lippincott, turned out to be an easy road, I think they just went through and smoothed it out...check out my you tube page for the vids...cvyota
So yes I hit a rock, if you look at the video it is the only rock around, I had little time to do anything, too sharp a turn and I would hit it broadside and maybe flip. I stomped the brakes at the end but the loose dirt was...too loose. Looking at the vid a hundred times I wondered why I didn't go off road before the rock, oh well I have a bit of work ahead of me as it looks like some of the mounts and frame horns are affected.

    Slow down

    Just getting started
Nice thread, I just picked up a very clean bone stock 2015 TRD Offroad DC short bed. New to the forum and new to the Toyota world (jumped the fence from the Jeep world) and looking forward to learning all about the right mods and upgrades for my Tacoma.

Had the Icons rebuilt in the front after 80k, they have the breaks from the flex in the tower on the tacoma
    20180611_111956.jpg
way too long, but they look brand new.
    20180613_122600.jpg

This is the fix, a spacer on top to reduce flex
    20180615_162159.jpg
Got to test them out in DV this last weekend. 200 miles on the dirt!

I bet a lot of folks will like to know if that does fix the flex issue and stop the struts from breaking. Live the pic of the truck coming around the corner. Looks like a fun trip

The “Fix” I currently have is a waterjetted donut and 1/2” longer bolts on the top of the could bucket to virtually eliminate the flex of the coil bucket. Problem solved.

Wish you had gone, Paul. I was looking forward to some advice from 'the man'

The spacer seems to do well, time will tell

Ok first off, don't do this.
Second if you do, you should have a snorkle.

This is at the Mojave river, normally very small but with the rainy season it has gotten...bigger.
I threw a code, misfire, because no air was getting to the engine, it also revealed a mis-wired light I was trying to track down.
After crossing twice I took out the air filter to dry, cleared the code and disconnected the bad wiring. Camped for the night and all was ok this morning, I am lucky, but it was fun.

    With that said

That's a hell of a lot of work, thought it was your truck at first.

And yes I was lucky not to hydrolock.

It wasn't in that post but we also did my rear suspension. I removed my oem leaf packs with the 3 leaf aal's and installed Deaver stage III 700# progressive leafs. 9 leafs with 2 overloads for 11 leafs. I took off and sold my Icon 2.0's and we installed Bilstein B110's. I still have the +6 rear brake lines to install. I also got my rear bumper. SOS standard rear with dual swingers and dual jerry can holder. I ordered it powder coated black but I already scuffed just the bumper and started bed lining it white.

Sink buggin now just a bit

When I add all the weight of the bumper and spare it ought to drop it a little I'd think if not I don't care.

Nice crossing the Mojave river like that! I've done a few river crossings and they always unnerve me! :D
