I have a 2017 Tacoma trd Off Road (short bed) that I need a bed cover for. I live in Colorado and it’s going to start snowing quite a bit so i need something that’s water right. What bed cover do you recommend and if anyone is in Colorado that might have one for sale PLEASE let me know! Thank you.

I'm just waiting for a discount on the Lund Genesis covers. I like the idea of the canvas cover and press in seal versus vinyl and velcro.

Hey CO here as well. I love my BakFlip MX4. Just a little extra TLC on the install with some RTV and I have no water issues.

I’m leaning towards a hard tri fold cover only because a razor blade can easily cut through a canvas cover and I can’t afford for anything to go missing

I had nothing but good things to say about the OEM tonneau. No water intrusion that was noticeable (I live in Seattle), but it also came with 2 extra seals that go towards the cab in the bed. Some of the sliding ones looked cool though.

The bakFlip MX4 is actually the one I’m currently looking at.
What did you encounter on the install that I should be weary of or more careful on. What is RTV? And lastly, how durable is it as far as sitting or standing on?
    Thanks for the help!

I would prefer the OEM tonneau if i could get my hands on one with the rails and all of the hardware. But they are no where to be found on Craigslist, offer up, Facebook marketplace, etc.

Yea, I'm sure its a bit of a hassle. I think you have to cut into the plastic bedside caps as well a bit. When I sold mine, I kept the 2 additional seals for my Leer Cap. If you go that route, its probably best to get it thru a dealer and let them install.

Lots of happy TW users on here with others though. Probably more trouble than its worth to go OEM. I think mine could have supported my weight (About 150lb) but I wouldn't risk it for the biscuit with any sort of frequency.

RTV = Silicone Sealant. I just used the black stuff and ran a bead along the bed rail where the mounting rail for the cover will sit. That and some extra around the front end where the foam pads stick to the front rail bar. There's a good thread on here with lots of pics and info:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bakflip-mx4-prelim-review.441729/

    Specifically good post here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bakflip-mx4-prelim-review.441729/page-10#post-14439455

I don't really stand or sit on it so I can't answer that. Seems fairly sturdy though.

I am also in the market for a tonneau/ bed cap. I have done a bunch of research and have narrowed it down to 2 items. Either a ARE bed cap, about $2800 or a Diamondback cover at $1500( several different styles, this is the cheapest).
I am starting to lean towards the Diamondback due to a neighbor. He has had one on his Dodge for about 7 years with ZERO issues, that's right ZERO issues. He has traveled all over the east coast in all different weather with NO leaks. Not only is it super secure , made out of aluminum , it weighs less then 100 pounds. They even have a version that you can drive your ATV on top ...... Check it out.

    My Undercover is great!!!
Two guys can take it off and hang it up in about a minute. It even comes with the hangars.
    Super quality product.

Those are the WeatherTech's. Toyota didn't make flaps for the " No Flares" SR5. Slight rub with KO2 265/70/17's at full lock, but I can live with it.

Went with the Backflip MX4 from
************************ and ended up paying only $750 after tax and delivery. Sorry for the dark picture, I installed it as the sun went down and it was pretty easy!

Undercover tri-fold on mine. Easy install and only two wing nuts to remove it. The only downside I have found, which could be true all of them is that you lose the use of the rails.
