Everyone needs/has a nemasis, some people it's a complete worker, other people it's a neighbor or that dickhead jock you went to school with, me it's gear lube. I hate the smell of it, it sticks to everything like napalm, and it NEVER washes out and it seems like everything I work on contains it/uses it. It never fails I have spills of epic proportions just about every time I handle the stuff. Example: I had three quarts of it, and one container of antiseize explode in my tool box when i first got my truck, to this day the tool bag that I had in there still smells like it and that tool box still had a film of that crap in there up until last week when some scrappers hauled it away from the end of my driveway. I spilled a quart of it all over my garage floor filling my duals one day because I forgot to put the drain plug in, stuff like that always seems to happen when I work with this stuff.

That segways into my latest work I did to the truck, u had to change the fluid in my cases as I haven't done it in 2 yrs and I was due. So I was sizeing up the operation and saw my trail gear trans cross member doesn't have a drain hole, and especially one that doesnt line up with the drain plug on the lefty. I make a ramp out of card board, pulled the the drain plug and let jesus take the wheel. The cardboard fell backwards twords the front of the front of the truck and spills that shit all over my skid and my garage floor, fuck.

Needless to say the ounce of fluid that actually went into a drain pan looked clean and not red so no fretting, woo hoo!!! Filled her back up with some 75-120 and next up is checking the level of the trans.

TLDR: gear lube smells like Satan's after birth, I spill it everywhere and something I built is not eating itself alive for once.

I just let mine drain onto the skid and collect it as it runs out a corner. Tried to do the same thing as you my first time with similar results.

Good news on the fretting side of things...I was really happy this spring when I split my cases and the input looked perfect after two years. Apparently anti-seize is the ticket

Im going to plasma cut or torch a drain hole in the skid I think.

The anti seize seems to be holding up, going on 8yrs and 50,000+ miles since I have had the cases apart. I still carry a spare input and coupler in this thing on long trips in case it goes kaboom in the middle of no where.

Trying to break the Nittos in, damn these are stiff tires. Aired the tires down for my commute to work a few days this week, 10up front and 7.5 out back. Why 7.5, because one tire was already at that and I didn't notice lol. Tires are barely squatting out. Im seriously going to have to run these at like 2psi off-road!

Same here, along with 757, 767, 777, and for another month the 747.

I had to reschedule due to some last minute work travel I had to go on and those bastards never called me back. I'm going to the widebody plant next month for work with the department I was supposed to interview for, I'll ask them when I'm there, lol!!!

Since a fire on the trail would suck, and my power steering lines are like 1" from my header pipe, I got a fire extinguisher and quick release mount. When buying a fire extinguisher dont get some cheap big box store plasticy POS, get a quality one for like 15bucks more I got an amerex ABC 2.5lb extinguisher. USA made In Alabama, they are all we use at work, and I got to visit the factory 3yrs ago for work, cool people as well. I got the mount from Drake off-road off Amazon, pull the handle and it's off, mounted it to the wheel well in the bed. Let's see how long before some fuck head steals it lol.

Ever since I swapped the first crawl box into this truck back in 2007 it's been puking the trans mount bolts out. I tried cleaning them, red locktiteing them, coat the threads in rtv and they would still work loose all the time. I figured it was the trans holes, so when my trans blew up a few years ago and I got my rebuilt Marlin unit, I figured the problem would be gone. Oozed on the red locktiteing and fuck, they still come loose. Once a week I need to tighten them, multiple times a day wheeling or every other fuel stop on a road trip. Today I said the hell with it and busted out the metal hot glue gun:

The welded bolts did not work and 2 broke free. Went wheeling at AOP last week, truck did great. The Toyos surprised me when I aired then down to 4psi front and 2 rear, above that they were not hooking up to the wet and muddy rocks. I think I have sprung an oil leak which sucks. It's leaking from the front of the bell housing alot (for this truck), there is a slim chance that came out of my DD that was parked there for a week. I'll add that to my list of winter/spring work along with hydro assist!

I normally don't wheel that fast, and prefer to crawl however that was wet clay covered rocks on a series to stair steps so I had to use momentum to get up that.

And it's confirmed, oil is leaking from the truck. I really do not want to drop the trans to fix the rear main....

Stay tuned for my hydro assist on the cheap and me dropping a whole bunch of dirt into the motor when I do the valve cover gaskets and cam seals.
