Why are body lifts bad?

I dont get why people hate them so much?

 

For me, its the fact that they look terrible because you can see the frame looking from the side.

 

But it doesnt affect the ride right? Because it doesnt mess with your suspension at all. Im probably gonna lift my truck when I get it 3 inches. And Im gonna use it mostly for offroad.

 

Other than the fact that it makes your center of gravity higher and thus throws off ALL handling characteristics, no, it doesn't affect the ride.

You also have the major disadvantage of not gaining any clearance. Technically, suspension lifts and body lifts BOTH don't gain running clearance until larger tires go on, but since susp lifts raise the frame and everything attached to it, pretty much everything that's not an axle rises. While this doesn't technically improve running clearance, it does make a big difference in breakover angles.

Personally, I think anything other than a suspension lift on a truck you're actually going to use (i.e. non-show truck) is a waste of time and money.

 

I've never seen a body lift on a taco that didn't look like shit.

 

I've never seen one on any vehicle that looked good.

 

imma have to say looks as well, there is basically two reasons people lift their trucks 1. to fit bigger tires 2. for looks

if you going to do it for looks then body lift is not the way to go, if you want big tires then a body lift will work fine

 

i did a 2" bl on my 90 Isuzu 4x4 pup. ID NEVER DO ANOTHER ONE. i thought more height is better. it did LOOK better, gap covers fix the bed/chassis sightings....but the truck handled completely different, alot of cables, radiator, and hoses had to be modified to work right and the steering angle changed and i got a thud when turning the wheel fast. i mean overall, yeah its OK....but not worth the aggrivation and time. IF you need the tire clearance, then yeah go minimal you can. just my opinion, and i wont do another BL on my trucks.

body lift = useless

 

wont there be a big gap between the bumpers and the body?

 

body lifts also have the tendency to come loose and cause a whole world of trouble. especially the urethane ones.

 

body lift + off road = bed smashing the back of the cab..

and alot of body work.

 

they supply bumper lifts in the kits as well. the kits CAN come loose as mentioned but if done properly they wont.

 

Everytime someone body lifts a vehicle, god kills a squirrel.

 

i hope hes selling all them tails to Mepps.

not quite my tires rub on my frame they dont touch my body at all so pitting bigger tires on and not lifting the suspension wont do anything except make you turn wider
