It ended up being 7* Saturday night. I definitely need to invest in a heater before I decide to do this again.....

I slept in the back of my truck under the topper when it was 14 degrees in Wyoming. I was miiiiiiiiiserable. As you we'll know, at that point your body heat isn't enough to keep blankets and the memory foam warm so I eventually wound up in the fetal position with frost on my pillow.

It honestly wasnt that bad. I was bundled up enough that I wasnt super cold sleeping Friday night... for the half of the night atleast. It wasnt until early morning I started getting cold. My air mattress did crack over night because it was so cold so I woke up on a deflated air mattress in the bed of the truck.

Saturday night, I slept in the front seat. I highly recommend not sleeping in the driver seat of an access cab Tacoma.

That's cool I keep hearing about the Cove but had no idea they had camping as well. Do they have any spots with electric I don't have a source of my own yet. Y'all only go up there once a year?

I don't recommend it either. Been there done that. Pretty crazy that your mattress failed. What kind is it?

Wife and I are about to embark on a camping trip with 10-20 temps too. So far plan was to pickup some appropriate sleeping bags and insulate the camper shell (where we will sleep) windows. Any other suggestions?

FLOOR! We have had our shoes freeze to the floor of a heated camper. I'd hate to see how much heat would escape if it were unheated. Bring some extra towels for the condensation.

Having my Buddy Heater in the camper was a game changer in the desert during last new years. Night time temps were close to freezing. In the morning I could reach down from the bed in the pop up and turn the heater on for a little while. Didn't take long and it was quite warm. Turn it off and get more sleep. Wake up again and turn it on and get dressed before going out in the sunshine. Night time too just to take the chill off before getting into bed.

This was the best night of camping I had this summer. By myself with my dog on the beach, great food cooked over fire, good music, cold beer and a great sunset.

Another recommendation for the Mr. Buddy line if heaters. Can really take the edge off the cold.

Beware sleeping bag ratings. Had a friend that once slept in 15F weather in a 15F bag. I asked him how he slept an he said, "I think when they say 15F rated what they mean is you won't die if you use it in 15F weather".

yea those sleeping bag ratings are more so survival ratings. you wont die at 15* but you wont sleep comfortably either.

And if it malfunctions during the night, you do not wake up.

Proper sleeping bag and pad, no heater required. Ask your local mountaineer how they stay warm and cozy.
    Western Mountaineering, enough said.

This. Air mattresses are your enemy in cold weather. Tent, a good pad, and a good bag are all you need. I camp many times a winter in single digit temps, with or without snow and sleep like a log in my tent.

Just like sleeping in a hammock, you need insulation under you. In a tent, or a truck bed, you need an insulated pad, not an air mattress.
Exped makes one/two that fit the Tacoma, for 2 people, called a Duo something. It is rated to -54°F.
