For an actual recovery jack I'd buy the Hi-lift for sure. I had the the HF on my truck for as long as I had the sliders and never used it. Never got a flat.

    Thanks, Joe.

I guess if I ever set up for 'wheeling, I'll get the original version.

My HF version has been great around the shop, so I'll keep it.

    Nice, new avatar pic.

Even at $4 it's not bad if it's even semi quality. Where is the coupon? I don't see any in the spots I usually look.

Has anyone else noticed that HF has been rebranding their tools, and bumping prices in the process? Some of the "new" brands do appear to be of higher quality, however many are the same just under a different name; brands often excluded from the 20% off coupon.

    ex:

I had been trying to buy a pair of "Pittsburgh" cable cutters for some months, being told they were back-ordered (both in-store and online)

Now I find the local store has a peg full of cutters with a new marque "Doyle"--for $19.99

If they really are upgraded tools that I'm OK with that, however I have routinely cut 1/8" and 3/16" steel cable with my several years old "Pittburgh" brand tool, with minimal wear other than that they don't like to cut 10 ga stranded copper anymore--hence my looking to buy another pair.

I have noticed several other tools that they have similarly "upgraded" to a different brand and price point--if they are better that's cool, however I can buy Wiss at Home Depot for $2 less, and Amazon has Channellock for $2 more, and Klein for $10 more...

Yes I have noticed. I would like to think the quality has improved.

If the price ratio comes within the "lower quality/priced known brands" I will probably stop buying from HF.

100%. I am not afraid to spend $ on nice tools. I just like saving some money shopping at HF. If I can get decent tools for quite a bit less than the other options I will take the risk. However if the price starts creeping to close to the name brand, then I will not take that risk.

o_O...same for me, price is my #1 reason for buying Harbor Freight anything. We’ll need to watch for this, maybe a trend. Thanks for posting it

is there a coupon for a torque wrench going on? I need a 3/8ths.... i have the 1/4in and 1/2 but i have some work that requires ~ 20 ftlbs, which is at the too extreme ends of either of the others i have.
