    Stupid question...
I take my truck to the dealer for regular service and if there is an update to the ECU, what will happen?
Do the dealers completely flash on some sort of update or do they "software patch" what is there? Curious if they can/will kill the whole ECU.

    Very, very, very doubtful.

The handheld tuners can flash-back to factory specs, if you're super worried.
Flash to OEM for service, flash back to your specs afterwards.

It will over write your tune. So no need to do updates after you flash the ecu... By now there are no updates that you would really need.
The tune changes the factoring settings so a factory update would most likely not be needed.
I'm sure if a dramatic updates would happen OVT will incorporate it in updates, but that's more likely on 3rd gens not 2nd gens...

    Thanks all.

I got 8 more years of free maintenance, that cost a fortune, too old to do that stuff anymore.

I think I'll flash to stock and then revert after.

OVtune, is the second gen Tacoma going to be included in your plans? I am interested in seeing the cam control strategy.

Yes, sorry. I saw the post where it was for 3rd gen. I see now it is for both. I am running Haltech anyway, but still interested in this if it can do what the stand alone can and keep my traction control or VSC light off.

Really want to get the handheld tuner while it's available but I can't get myself to buy it without knowing the performance/driving benefits

Check out the 3rd gen tuners he made.
They’re getting something like 20+ ft lbs of torque gains down low/mid range.
Obviously it’s a different engine, but I suspect similar results.

    Read this thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ovt-flash-on-a-2010-tacoma.500463/

    Sounds worth it to me.

Been reading the crap out of that thread, I'm hoping for better low end torque as well as better shifting between 4th and 5th.

I think it'll be worth it, just want more power!! :angrygirl::angrygirl::angrygirl: Curious to see how much an N/A with bolt ons will put down!

I’ve got every Bolt-on except a SC (which will be done next year.)
URD True CAI w/ MAD calibrator, long tube headers, with full exhaust, and a intake plenum spacer. Assuming I can fix my current drivability issue(s) (02 sensor problems, and lagging- may be related.)

The truck is WAY quicker compared to stock. I’ll be doing a before and after dyno run once I get my handheld.
Hopefully that will give you the info you need.

that would be great! I'm also hoping OV comes out with Dyno numbers once everything is completed.

Exact same thought process I have. The rep is good, but I've seen other well-rep'd vendors that have trouble delivering. Just waiting myself. No disrespect to OP, but, for me, "trust, but verify".
