    enough to have fun
that's funny, I went the other way around. I like the softer 90021s with my 886 springs. Noticeably softer on the street, however I haven't tried in offroad yet!

Do you feel like with smashing the pinch weld, and a CMC, you can clear 35s?

asking because I plan on doing the same in the spring. I have a CMC done, just dont know if its enough

I doubt it. I don’t have cmc or pinch weld done since I run 255. Everyone in Moab who had 35s cut fenders, cmc, and pinch weld.

Exactly. Sent photo to Chase @ ECGS to get his take. I talked to him on the phone yesterday for about 50 minutes.

I hate to say it but when I call ECGS their staff knows who I am. By name. They know the name of the shop I'm working with. Apparently I'm the oddball issue they've all been talking about.

This is the 3rd rear end I've had since re-gearing. First complete 3rd member I got from ECGS had a bad seal in the ARB locker. So local shop rebuilt it. Pinion bearing failed. ECGS provided me with new parts, local shop rebuilt it completely. It howled from day one. Eventually we found it was full of metal. So local shop bought me a new 3rd Member (complete with gears, new locker, etc) and put that in. Here I am a month later and there's metal already and it's making noise again.

Nobody seems to know why. ECGS says the local shop obviously rebuilt the 3rd member wrong when replacing the ARB seal. And they did it wrong again when they rebuilt the 3rd member the second time. But now I'm having the SAME issue with an entirely new 3rd Member ECGS built. So... here I am... clueless as to what everyone is missing.

Do I now ship the 3rd member back to ECGS, rent a car for 2-3 weeks, and let them pick at it? Or do I find an old differential mechanic who's been around the block a few times locally and ask him for a 3rd party opinion and pay him a shit load of money to rebuild it?

So i asked Chase at ECGS the other day if they inspected the old 3rd member that we just replaced a month ago as i wanted to figure out what failed. He said my local shop never sent it back.

So, turns out local shop kept my last 3rd member. This is the one they built using warranty parts ECGS sent. Its parts are worth more than the core charge. I asked them today if they would diagnose what went wrong. They said that it all appeared fine.

I asked if they tore it apart to inspect it's parts. They said no. That would require more labor to take apart, inspect, and rebuild so they can sell it.

Let's ignore the fact that it was mine. They ordered me a new one as warranty for their labor in the matter since they built that one and it was failing (lots of metal in diff).

So, we have no idea why my diff was full of metal on the LAST go around because they have not bothered to look. And they plan to sell that 3rd member as is.

I've arranged a meeting Tuesday morning with the manager and owner so we can discuss this all. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with the manager today about how important it is to me that we find out WHERE the mertal is coming from and that means taking apart that old 3rd member.

Thing is the diff has always made the same noise. Always had metal in it. First failure was pinion bearing... which everyone says almost never happens. Second one... we don't know because they haven't inspected it. And this third one... still in the truck.

I'm told the second setup spins fine and makes no noise so they presume it is fine. But how can that be if the diff oil had "a lot" (their words) of metal in it?

Right? If I was having to pay for all the shit so far I'd be somewhere else. I really feel like I need a fresh set of eyes from a real diff mechanic. But that'll cost money.

Still waiting to hear back from Chase at ECGS about the oil photo and whether he thinks I need to pull the 3rd and ship it to him.

Email back from Chase @ ECGS this morning. He says if the diff is making noise they need to look at it. Doesn't think it's worth the time to make local shop tear apart the old 3rd member.

So... I need to figure out what I'm going to drive for 2-3 weeks so I can have the 3rd removed and shipped to ECGS.
