I cut a piece of plywood to fit the bottom of my bed and added carpet. It's not actually insulated but it make a big difference when sleeping in the back. Also is much more comfortable than the ridges.

Does anyone add insulation and paneling into the sides and roof of their shell to increase warmth ?

The Van-Lifer bohemians and hipster poets go to greath length to insulate the entire inside of their vans. Why not the bed of a Tacoma ? Anybody ?

That's what a carbon monoxide detector is for.

Yeah, there's so many safety features built in anyways! CO detector is just a little extra peace of mind.

"Oh but if it fails, you'll die."

If your brakes on your truck fail you'll probably die, but that doesn't stop me from driving every day.

its a leer model c aluminum cap. I use to have a sleeping platform and drawers before i took them out for a slide and swingout. the insulation is something i took from a friends work -- its used to insulate the freight trucks. Its a blend of the silvery sheets on the outside and a weave like blend sandwiched in between and very light weight

curtains are something i cut up from left over curtains i found in the garage.

You might want to look into this stuff. It's light, comes in bulk/different sizes and is not expensive. I have it cut for all my truck windows, haven't used it in a shell because I don't have one LOL. But the stuff works.

Ok, but if you had the right sleeping bag and pad you wouldn't need to run a heater all night.
    YMMV.

Yeah, true. Although I'd like a nice cold weather sleeping bag, for me a heater is better/more economical since I don't camp in uber cold weather all too often enough to justify the cost. Plus this way I'll stay toasty warm when getting dressed in the morning

I can never get comfortable in a mummy bag. I'd rather have a Mr. Buddy and risk dying.

I have been down to 20 F with my Coleman flannel lined bag. Not expensive, not a mummy, roomy, comfortable, and I got it on Amazon.
    https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Dunnock-Tall-Weather-Sleeping/dp/B00363PSKK
    Under $60.
I wore the last one out, so I got 3 this time. They zip together, too.

But, I do prefer all of my Western Mountaineering MUMMY bags.

I've got a similar one from coleman! It's only 30 degrees according to their site, but it's comfy. I'm going to see how well this heater works this upcoming trip, and if I hate it, I have my eye on a mummy bag from REI that I can use my 20% coupon on.

providing you have adequate insulation underneath you, a thick down comforter or wool blanket over a sleeping bag works wonders.
