He’s done what the most of us have - priced out a used one and said “why would I spend all that money on a used one when I can spend 3-5k more and buy a brand new one?” MY18 in his garage soon?!

Well there went 716.55...... Order number 2184.... I figured that was better than the hit I would take trying to trade off the taco rocket. Like the truck hait the way the motor and trans operate. I bought the Shift Sense Pro about 6 months ago. That was a very nice improvement on the shift points. The combination of a detuned mouse and a transmission that races to 6th is misserable. Living in the mountains makes it even worse! Tomorrow morning i take the truck in. I,m gonna try to get the tsb update. I hope I have no problems getting that done or I won,t need the kit. There are post of people who were given the "no problem found story". I,m gonna tell them i,m experiencing the problems that are listed in the tsb. I also have a copy. And i will try to get them to "manually" check the fluid. I,m gonna use a paint marker on the drain bolt today. Removing that is part of the procedure. There is a small standpipe that maintains the proper level IF it is checked at the right temp. If I have to I can follow the directions on one of the other threads and do it myself. But i,m sol if I don,t get the update. Early 2016 build.....I,m a good mechanical things but I,m about as techy as a snow shovel....One hurdle at a time.. Any tips on getting the update done for sure. Not just them saying "your all set". Thanks in advance. Max

@boxerfan, I tried this week to get the latest update. They gave me the comment that my truck doesn't have any recalls ties to its VIN. I'm going to try another dealership, keeps us posted on how it goes

Auto, wanted a manual, but couldn't get one by the time I needed a truck. Don't know why the dealerships always push back on updates.

This thread is an interesting read. Many of the comments/complaints about the Tacoma AT mimic the complaints about the AT in the Chevy Colorado.

I'll be picking up a 2017 Tacoma Sport MT very soon. I currently drive a 2015 Colorado Z71. The Colorado is a very nice truck that fits my needs, but it has the worst transmission/tranny programming I have ever experienced in a vehicle. The dealer installed two software updates that only made things marginally better, and I ended up spending thousands, yes thousands, on four different tunes from four different companies in an attempt to correct the shifting. The last, and most expensive, tune came the closest to remedying the shifts, but the adaptive learning always defeated the tune after about 2000 miles. I've cursed the tranny for two years and 25,000 miles, and finally decided to trade the truck for one with a manual tranny.

I hope OV can help you guys with ATs, because I feel your pain. Knowing myself, I will probably purchase their tune for my MT Tacoma to make it shift as well as possible. At least I'll be in charge of the gear selection. No more being in sixth gear at 30 MPH!

Right on, you'll love the M/T. The tune is still needed though, as throttle response is terribly delayed among other quirks -oh, and added torque.. who doesn't love that??!!

My understanding is when you reflash a tune, it resets the adaptive learning. With this kit, you get the hardware to do that. So at least you can reset the learning yourself whenever you like (it only takes about a minute to write the firmware to the truck).

I plan on keeping my mini laptop in the truck at all times so I re-flash it when ever I feel like it has "relearned" too much.

Arrive at the doctors office too early? Re-flash

Arrive to work too early? Re-flash

    Washing the truck? Re-flash

The plan now is to completely get around the last step of the transmission learn process so that this will never be required.

With you driving your own truck, I predict that a future update will surpass your current tune by a greater margin than your current tune surpassed OEM.

This is really exciting. Thanks Matt..........................

Just in California? How likely will you be able to make the ecm unlearn driving habits?
