In the winter time mice like to get in my air box and make a nest from the air filter. Fotunately this is seasonal.

I spray my homemade capsaisin spray in my filter box and in the intake louvers and it keeps them out.

Wire insulation is made with soy. Mice are attracted to the wires. Didn't wade through the thread, didnt know if this was mentioned or not.

FWIW, I have battled mice in my vehicles for many years. I think all mice in North America are born on my property. I have owned my boat for about fourteen years and have never went more than a month without finding evidence of mice in it. I have tried EVERYTHING to deter them and nothing worked. I once placed a sock full of mothballs under the hood of my lawn tractor. The little fuckers shredded up the sock within a week and built a nest in the engine with it, leaving a pile of mothballs where the sock was. This past fall I gave the dryer sheets a try, stuffed every nook and cranny in my boat. In five months I have found absolutely ZERO evidence of mice in the boat. This cannot be a coincidence, just to be sure I have kept traps set around the outside of the boat and have consistently killed mice in them. The dryer sheets I bought are just some nasty super perfumey ones from Dollar General.

I stick a Dryer Sheet under the hood of my car when I store it for the winter as stupid mice kept nesting in my lower intake manifold.

Have you tried fluid filming the underside? The smell alone may keep them away. After I sprayed mine, I've not seen anything in or on my vehicles.

Peppermint oil has been the best for me. They got into my pops Prius (engine bay, 2K damage) and mom’s Highlander(top of the gas can, $400 damage), all delicious soy-based wiring. Now we use the sticky pads around with mesh to try to keep them out.

Cheyenne pepper mixed with water, spray under parking area. Lasts a week or so and keeps rabbits & woodrats out from under truck - or so told me a ranger living at a station near El Centro a few years ago.

It also kept coyotes from stealing box traps we used on a small mammal study.

I wanted to follow up on this one as I had a rather nasty turn of events regarding rodents. My wife called me at work one day and said she heard something making noise under her hood and snakes were falling out when she got out to look. She popped the hood and there were 2 dead snakes and a dead chipmunk under there as well as a shitpile of acorns.

I cleaned it out (thank God I have an air compressor) and sprayed it down with pepper spray I made from habaneros soaked in alcohol which had worked up until this shitshow. The next morning we get up and find this.

This is overnight people! That pile is ~ 4 inches deep. She got home from work at 7:30 PM and this was at 6AM. My pepper spray didn't even slow these assholes down. My Taco was clean up till this point--I had been spraying it down with pepper spray every week. We were going out of town that evening in her car and I cleaned it out again but was worried about my truck so I sprayed the rest of my pepper spray all over it.

When we got back my truck was just like this, top of the engine packed with acorns. I cleaned it out and took a big container of powdered cayenne pepper and shook it all over both engines. I've been checking them daily and have not had a single acorn on either engine. I will reapply as it blows off or I get more rodent activity.

I think the chipmunks hauled in the nuts and sticks, attracted snakes which killed the dead chipmunk, then the snakes went thru the belts.

I live in the middle of the woods at the end of a county road on 24 acres. Both cars outside.
