So far everyone's advice is really good especially the Pro owners. I have driven an OR and was left wanting a bit more when it came to the suspension. But that was on road and not off road at the limits I would be putting it through. I previously had a Tundra OR and loved everything about it including the on or off road drive. I would have only added a locker and by the end would've upgraded the suspension again. But I previously had two small Toyota trucks and wanted to go back to something that can fit in trails and parking spaces better. That thing was a beast to drive everywhere I took it.

    I am in Oregon.

That is the thing, I do not think I want to upgrade a lot. I think I will stay close to stock minus sliders, and possibly a front skid plus a rack in the bed for trips. I don't plan on putting a RTT on top, or attaching stoves, tanks, etc to a rack. I don't do crawling but I will go way away from civilization. I have experience doing this, and have luckily never put myself in a position where my skills, abilities, or preparation have left me in danger.

Yeah, some people have different definitions.

I put 3800 miles on my 16 OR. I test drive a sport but the OR rode a lot smoother thus I went with it . On gravel and highway the OR was a fantastic machine

Having said that, I have put 52,000 miles on my 17 PRO

I prefer the Pro to the OR. I feel it is a lot more composed on gravel/sand on my farm and highways. The ride doesn’t beat me up but it also isn’t floaty like my LS600HL

Remember both trucks are stock for stock. To me PRO is much better. If I was held and gunpoint and told to pick a number, I would say I prefer my PRO to my OR 20% better

    Good luck OP

I test drove the OR and the Pro back to back.
Initial feel alone: no comparison. I liked the Pro far more immediately. Your description of your driving is identical to mine.

One little difference between the two that no one has mentioned: You can't get a moonroof on the Pro (to me, that's a bonus-Extra headroom and no hole cut in my roof? Yes please!) I live in OR. We don't like holes in our roofs.

Btw, I got a MT (The only way to go, imo- really makes this truck a blast)

    Crawl Control=yaaaawn
    A free extra peddle=yippee!!

I had an 08 tundra TRD Limited. The ride with that truck was really jittery, and rough. It was way too large for some of the back roads that I take on some fishing trips. My new TRD PRO Tacoma is way nicer of driving truck than my Tundra, and easier to drive off road and in town. I had problems with my moon roof on my tundra, and it had to be replaced, not cheap. Part of the reason why I went with the TRD PRO was the lack of moonroof, on less thing to worry about leaking.

I agree with the comments about getting an SR-5 and upgrading later... EXCEPT YOU CAN'T GET A V6 M/T IN THAT TRIM FFS!

BTW, if you REALLY want to wring the fun out of these trucks, get OVtune. Forget your fancy Toyota-branded noise makers. Maybe pair tune with URD spec-U later.

Don't even bother asking why you'd spend ~$800 for a tune on a brand new truck. If you had it, you'd simply shut your mouth and drive... no bullshit.

I don't benefit from saying this stuff, but I have suffered the garbage OEM tune for the better part of two years.

A lil this a lil that.
    This..
I own a pro and I liked the suspension, but loading any sort of cargo or adding bumpers etc effects the suspension immediately. I'm saving for suspension sooner or later I'll have some Kings...

Which dealership is this? And are they marking them up?

Edit: Likely Carlsbad. How are they customer service wise?

Sweet. I like to hear that. I feel the same way. I think the Pro is a good "out of the box" machine. If I were going to do @mesojdm sorta stuff (yeah, I wish), I'd go with an OR.

Yeah, no thanks. That's ridiculous for a truck. For some reason I feel like Toyota would profit on selling a TRD Pro for 40k. But they can charge 50k and feel great about it... And dealers can mark it up more to make more money.

Sad that a Toyota 4x4 V6 truck is almost 40k price point. I was reading an article earlier today about car loans being historically high right now (amount borrowed being high) and a large number of people are having trouble repaying them. I hope the system falls on it's head. But I know it won't. Sucks.

I'd buy a TRD OR V6 4x4 with all the packages for 35k OTD. But it's about 5k more than that BEFORE TTL. And if you want quicksand or cement on it... Good luck getting any kind of discount.

    USD...

Is it possible to get a TRD Pro for 45k OTD new anywhere in the US? Willing to travel anywhere but keep in mind I have 8.5% sales tax for CA due as soon as I register with CA.
