Ok who's a dog training guru?

She's perfect in many ways but is scared to go to the bathroom. Maybe one pee and poo per day. I think she used potty pads at the shelter bc if she goes in the house, it's always on the same rug. If she goes outside, it's on the same grass. We try to stay right with her and take her outside at the first sign she's gotta go, but I'm tired of going on 45 short walks a day with no caca. She's kinda timid outside, and won't take treats. Even though she's gotten WAY more confidence. Inside she's a treat eating whore...

    +additional friction.

MTs also tend to be softer which adds even more friction

Stop giving her any treats inside. Only associate treats with desired behavior. Usually, that includes tricks, but I would recommend only associating high-value food items with using the restroom outside. Give her a shit load of praise when she does use the restroom outside. And try not to get frustrated when she doesn't go, she will pick up on it.

What type of dog? I've always potty trained via kennel, to larger kennel, to fenced area, to one room, to half the house, to whole house. Time consuming but not all that bad and perfect success. But this is with labs. They hate going in their "living space". So it's pretty easy to train them this way.

    How old is she?
I would take the dog out and would Say “go peepee” over and over and when he did I’d reward him him with a “good boy”. Within a few weeks he knew what the word peepee was. But he was also a pup

Thanks. She's only got treats inside for desired behavior. She is smart. Picked up sit, down, stay, and leave it really quick with treats.

I'll try treats outside only but when she did go on the grass she was totally uninterested in the treats

She is a lab/hound/who knows what else mix. Her indoor spot is in the room we sleep in...

She's about 1.5. Tried that, but it's only been a few days. She looks like she's about to go a bunch of places, but some noise or something will distract her

You know, Riley pees on command. Right?

Well, maybe not right now but if you take him outside and say "go pee", he will start the search. It's a really useful command.

How'd I get there? It started when I brought him home. He's grown up in a crate and since he was about a year, he's had free roam of the house-still hangs in his crate once and a while. I kept him in the crate unless we were playing or doing something outside. When I let him out, we'd go outside immediately-I'd carry him. Then put him down and say "go pee". When he did, lots of praise and a couple of treats. If he didn't pee right away, I'd take him inside and back in his crate for a short bit. I still tell him "go pee" tho no treats, just praise. When we'd come back in, back in the crate. When he was small, I'd take him out every couple of hours and as he grew, we'd go a bit longer. And then, there came the time to give him more area so dog gate confining him to his crate and the kitchen and eventually, the whole house.

The pee thing is about confinement and providing opportunities to pee and rewards for success. It depends on consistency (almost everything in a dog's life is about consistency).

Also, it helps if you know what goes in and what comes out. Riley eats two cups of food daily plus some treats here and there. He poops twice a day. Drinking about 64oz of water during the day. Maybe more when I get home. I know it seems weird to know his schedule but it helps.

Willie Nelson does that too. A great ‘trick’ to teach a dog.
