Yep. The law was passed a few years ago. Bill s5.
It was supposed to allow vehicles starting at 15 then every year the age would drop by 2 until 2018 when you can then bring in new vehicles.
But like normal our government won’t get their act together and get it working. Right now they are refusing to comply with the law and won’t even disclose their plans.
I emailed Transport Canada about it recently and they say it will be in place soon.

This explains what should be happening.

Its funny you say this and I would be interested to actually see the numbers for Tacoma sales. Reason I say that is I rarely see short box 3rd gen Tacomas, maybe a couple a week at most and I drive 140 km a day...I do however see many long box 3rd gens every day. Craigslist too, i have seen 1 short box for sale.

Same here. My guess is that Toyota wants to cut production costs by just offering the Limited in a SB version that has sold in the US for the last 2 years. I can't believe Canada has the type of demand for this model that warrants a special factory run.

I couldnt agree more! I guess it could also be reactionary to the Canyon Denali which is only available in short box. I guess people looking for luxury arent looking for the added box space??? I dunno its odd to say the least when they could be concentrating way more on the lower trim model offerings that everyone desires

I found this article comparing Tacoma sales in USA vs Canada. 2017 YTD October - USA =163,224 and Canada = 10,538. So USA has 94% of the volume. It's not hard to see why Canada has limited selection of models and options vs USA.

If you take 10,538 and split the volume by province, you can see why you probably have not seen a lot of short beds. The 2016 Tacoma was only available in short bed with the Sport Manual, and in 2017, the short bed is only for the Sport Manual, Off Road Automatic, and Pro Manual or Auto

No question economy of scale comes into play with anything relating to the US so its somewhat irrelevant if you know what I mean. Were talking 350 million+ vs 36 million+. The question really was what sells more in Canada, short bed or long bed, these are the numbers I would be very interested to see. Other users are indicating short bed sells more units however I just don't see that being the case, at least in my neck of the woods.

Thanks for sharing that article, interesting to see!

I agree... I have not seen ANY short box Tacos since the 3rd gen came out.... My dealer will only order long box 4x4's..... If you want something else, I guess he would have to find it for you from another dealer..... Actually, local dealer has now got the FIRST off road model I've seen here....!!

I waited since 05 for a short box offroad so when I saw it I called my buddy who runs a Toyota Dealership the same day. It is easier to handle offroad and much easier to park. Mind you I live right by Vancouver, contract downtown and have to street park there or use the parkades where fitting a Honda CRV isn't even comfortable.

Next time I am at my dealer, I will ask him what % of Tacoma they sell are LB vs SB.

One useless data point - I went out today for about 90 minutes. Saw one other 3rd gen Tacoma - Shortbed Off Road in Quicksand.............exactly same as mine.

"Technically" You are correct, as I meant to say I have not seen any "in my neighbourhood" When I saw yours, I was NOT "in my neighbourhood"...!!:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Until you, or someone else comes up here, I'll likely never see a short box in the wild...!! (in MY neighbourhood)...

This IS ...."long Box" country...!!:thumbsup: :mudding:

LOL. I saw a guy in downtown Vancouver about an hour ago pull out from a street parking spot using "feel mode" on the car in front of him...hit the car twice! Sport LB. , and if you are on TW..it was YOU in the white one!
