    Yeah.
Brake fluid can absorb moisture over time which can reduce its performance and corrode the lines. That said, I've never done a brake fluid change for the sake of changing fluid. Typically it will get changed when the master cylinder goes out anyway. But, if it makes you feel better, have it replaced when you have the pads replaced.

As far as replacing the rotors, it kind of depends. You used to have them "turned" when doing a brake job, cost about 10 bucks. Over time, fewer auto shops had the tools and skill to do it, and you had to find a machine shop. And the manufacturers quit making rotors with enough material on them to actually turn -- you may get one turn if you're lucky. From what I have heard, if you can find a place, it is now in the neighborhood of $50. But, new rotors are widely available and inexpensive now -- AutoZone usually has them in stock, and the ones for my old '92 were $18 each. I actually just did my brakes over the weekend, I got 90K miles out of the original pads. Rotors looked OK and I probably would have been fine just replacing the pads, but RockAuto carries "premium" rotors for under $40 each. And if you are really cheap, you can get the ones for under $25 each. So, not much of a difference between turning (which is a hassle anyway) and just replacing. Just find your own, I have no idea what a shop would try to charge you.

I'd just go with a trusted mechanic in that case.

Yelp is really great in finding a good mechanic. A lot of good businesses don't advertise and Yelp can find them.

    Yeah.
They even registered it as a trademark. Maybe that's to say it is just a trademark, you should still worry?

    N E V E R !!!

Jiffy Lube tried to screw my wife over bad, all she wanted was an oil change. She called me crying and said " they have a 4 of my wheels/tires off saying my brakes are shot and car is unsafe to drive and have an estimate written up for $1379 "
Needless to say i went over there and went clear off .. was about to kick some kids ass and told him to go put the wheels/tires back on that we were not some f*$×in idiots.
Wife gets car home and next day a big puddle of oil under her car, the oil pan bolt was stripped out and leaking oil. Yes stay the hell away from the Jiffy Lube type places

Dealerships are one notch above Jiffy Lube on the mouth breather chart. I took my truck in for its 5000 mile "whatever". All they had to do was rotate the tires, and they effed that up. I took this photo before I left the parking lot. And let 10psi out of all four tires.

Never... these places are never trained, equipped, competent, or any other variation of those terms. Jiffy lube is a joke where hacks work that have zero skills to work at reputable places. I wouldn't even trust them to perform a state inspection. When I was a mechanic at Lexus we saw countless cars come in with stripped out oil pans from those morons. I would recommend investing in a floor jack and some jack stands and do the job yourself. Or flip over a few extra bucks for a dealer to do it. At least then when they mess up the job they will do the honest thing of making it write.

    That's my .02

^^^^^ THIS... the actual seal for the filter housing is the "O" ring on the side of the canister....NOT the top end that "bottoms out". It's just plastic against metal.... The "O" ring is "THE" seal....It's actually "sealed" before you bottom out the housing....!

    NO torque wrench req'd.....

YES... they are so under-paid that the only way they can make a decent wage is to "up-sell" the customer on air filters/fan belts/Tranny flush/brake fluid flush/Squirter juice flush ("you have winter fluid in there...we have to remove that and put in summer juice with the bug softener")....:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Makes me wonder what my tire pressures have been at with previous vehicles that didn't have a computer to tell me. I always placed my trust in the dealer, but you never know.

Yes there is a lot of hate for the quicky-lube places. Normally I would say this is due to the bad experiences getting vented and spread around more quickly than the good experiences. But in this case, I have to say the reputation is well-deserved (as many others are saying).

I can't imagine a quality oil/filter change for just $20. You can barely buy the materials for that much, let alone pay for a qualified technician's time to do the work. So even with the bulk discount on materials these places are getting... in order to make a profit, they employ "help" at near minimum wage, which is the real problem. To be fair, many of these employees are probably skilled enough to do the work properly, and consistently. But some are definitely not.

My sister has several bad experiences with Jiffy Lube where the oil was way overfilled, or the drain plug was not tightened, or the air filter housing not closed properly, etc etc. Some problem that was a very easy fix, but the work was just not done right. Myself, I have never had any vehicle serviced at a quick-lube shop. I do my own service and most of my own maintenance and repairs, all but the real heavy stuff. In the future I may pay a shop for basic service but I will certainly go to a reputable shop where the mechanics are certified and are paid enough to do quality work. Of course this will cost me, but you can't put a price on peace of mind.

And ironically, this is the first time I've taken a car to the dealer for any type of service in my more than 40 year life..... not a good omen, as I'll be taking this new truck in for the next 2 years.
