You flash it once with our calibration and not again unless you want to change it or to one of our updates

If you come up with a way to get around the computer relearning, will that be included in an update at no cost?

Toyota should have let the transmission learn how we want to shift by allowing it to analyze our shifts in sport/manual mode.

It's an awful lot of money for floor mats and a shift knob.

I believe this, I drive my truck aggressively and it has not reverted back with over 2.5K on 1.02C (A). I bought the tune primary for more torque and hope that 1.03 will squeeze more torque out at the low end. I also think the the tune can make improvements off the line. WOT from a stop still causes the truck to fall on its face.

Will be doing a bunch of logging and testing of the R&D Truck this weekend.

Initial thoughts within first 30 miles on stock tune
    - Truck feels practically undriveable without ECT
    - Truck shakes really bad at idle
    - first 10 miles truck was smoking out of the exhaust like a blown damn headgasket

This happens was happening to me all the time running 1.02c-a. when i went back to stock, it disappeared. Glad you have the truck so things like this don’t get overlooked.

Edit: Post some pics! You end up going with white?

I will definitely investigate this. I got it to happen 2 other times, both ECT mode. Still on stock tune as well.

Granted, I don't have an AT, but isn't that pretty much irrelevant once the tune is perfected? Don't the A/B/C shift mappings pretty much cover the range of driving/shifting preferences?

@OVTune Can you have ECT mode turned on by default when starting the truck? If that can't be done can you reverse the mapping so that the non-ECT mode is really the ECT mapping and then when you press the ECT button it switches to the "normal" mapping? Then maybe we can call the ECT mode in that case the "Economy Taco" mode.

The idle piece isn’t “normal” unless you have a faulty crankshaft sensor from my personal experience.. mine idled rough stock until I replaced it. Not sure what year/model you ended up with but if it was produced before late spring I’d say it’s $100 well spent for piece of mind.

@OVTune the white smoke you saw is from the initial run of the valve cleaning feature of the motor. It has this since it’s both a Direct injection and Port injection motor. As you probably know Direct injection only motor get plagued with Carbon build up on the bales since gasoline with it cleaning additives never Pass directly over the valves. With the taco having an ability to run port injection, toyota implemented a valve cleaning cycle feature where the port injection will rapidly spray small amounts of fuel to clean the valves. This typical happens at idle and you will hear a loudish ticking sound (injectors opening and closing rapidly) coming from the engine and you will briefly see white smoke coming out the exhaust when this happen.

Mine did what you described when I drove on the highway after picking up my Tacoma with only 2 miles on the odometer. I suspect the first time the port injection kicks in its cleaning the intake runners and combustion chamber for the very first time and thus the tin of white smoke many of us on TW had seen the day we picked up our fresh off the delivery truck Tacoma’s. It’s much like what happens when you use say Seafoam to clean out the motor.
