Honestly if this thing would let me open the back window without sucking in leaves, dirt, small rocks, birds... etc... I'll buy it. Maybe I just need a screen door for it.

I wonder if it would help with drag to increase fuel efficiency?
wouldn't help with downforce to get more traction as its not over the rear enough

Someone addressed that in this thread.

Basically no. It would disrupt the airflow over the "air bubble" in the bed and onto the tailgate potentially causing less fuel efficiency.

Apparently the ideal concept would be a spoiler on the tailgate for that.

Ford already has the most aerodynamic tailgate design. State of the art!

I agree. That spoiler if you can call it that is for appearance if you like it. I doubt it adds any performance value. Just my opinion. May keep dirt from coming in rear window?

I'm not denying that the buldge could be for aerodynamic reasons, but understand, and this is coming from a guy that owns a 17 Lariat 3.5 eco (me :D) on top of my 07, that buldge is mainly there because you have the internals for the 2nd gen "man step", which I have also, the entire backup camera relay, the rear led step light, and the internals for the push button assisted tailgate also. Yes it may be for aerodynamic reasons, but understand there's a lot of tech behind that buldge.

I'm ashamed. It's been months since I've seen someone speak of the flying 3rd gen...

They are on sale now EGR rear cab spoiler $150.00 mite pick 1 up if it protects the third break lights from UV lights and water and helps out with the back bed drags and keeps rear window from back dirt sticking to rear window and on rainy days flow water down the rear windows since we do not have rear defrosters on are trucks.
