Tundra brakes on 16 inch steel spares?

Quick question: will the Tundra brakes (13WL) fit with first gen 16 inch steel spares?

 

Check the linked thread, it has the most complete set of information regarding the 13wl's, including wheel fitment. I would imagine if all the 16" toyota oem wheels fit, the spare would too.

Good news. Whatever steel spares I have, fit the Tundra brakes just fine. I'll take measurements in the next couple days so folks can check theirs in the future.

 

LOL. I guess I should have said, why not use the 5th matching spare. That's a great shot of the wheel to showcase the color.

Btw, Discount Tires on ebay is having a special. You get $100 for every $400 spent. Just buy a pair at a time.

I'd have used the new wheels if I was sure I wanted KM2's. Not sure yet though, so running a second-hand set for a few weeks to see how I like them. But THEN, I can't wait to get the SCS's on - right now, they're constantly tempting me, all boxed up in the living room!

 

Just a final follow-up here as I was taking care of re-forming (rather than cutting) and re-installing the fender liners today as part of the pinch weld mod and so had the wheels off.

I have two different types of 16" steel spares - one type fits over the Tundra 13WL calipers, the other doesn't:

Fits (first gen 01-04 16" spare):

• label stamped in wheel: J 16X7 JJ DOT CMC 10 01 HM 31
• backspacing: 4 3/4" strong (so 4 3/4+)
• identifiable (for me) via all holes being round

Doesn't fit (second gen 05+ 16" spare) (backspacing pushes the wheel too far in, interfering with the brakes and front suspension):

• label stamped in wheel: J 16X7 JJ DOT CMC 9 10 WT 14
• backspacing: 5 3/8"
• identifiable (for me) via one oval hole near the valve stem

that 2nd steel wheel is most likely from the 2nd Gen (most of their wheels are 5.25" BS). The first Gen Tundra and Tacoma had the same backspacing and uniform round holes for the spare wheel.

I took a picture of my spare, since I have the 13WL's. And according to @turbodb I'm good with the fitment. But with an almost 14 year old tire, I'm not too sure.
But at least I know!

 

Did you measure the back spacing? Or just slap it on and dry run it?

 

It's actually sitting on the back 5 acres. I don't plan on ever using it. I just compared Post#10's two types of rims. The rims I have now are 16x8 Method double standards w/ 4.5" of BS. Those fit fine without any clearance issues. I just should've bought a 5th one. My tires are 265/75/16's while we all know the spare at least on my truck is a 265/70/16.

 

Love the look of those wheels. I've been jonesing on them since first seeing them on a taco here. Thanks for posting up the info as well.

 

Just finally got a full set, they go on next week! Time to dump the Tundra steel wheels, too wide for my pizza cutters.
