You will be fine. Just don't turn sharply on pavement if you can help it.

You and @Casper66 should look in to @Up2NoGood 's 2lo module. It does wonders for things just like this, plus the trails. I am not sure when he will have another batch available, but I'm sure he could fill you in if you are interested.

I believe that is the only thread he has active for it. I think there was talk about starting it's own thread instead of piggy backing the heated mirror thread, but I'm not sure that ever came through or not. It is a new product he started with in this year and a few other guys and myself got in on the first round buy. He guinea pigged the first module on his own truck for months and made adjustments from there. It's a great system, super easy to install.

    Awesome! Thanks for the details.

If you can, can you let us know how it physically functions? Is there a switch somewhere? Is it independent of, or married to, the 4wd knob?

The way he has it set up is you can put it on an individual switch or you can just use the 4x switch in the truck. I chose the latter. It works just as simple as putting the truck in 4lo with the exception of not going fully to the 4hi. First you go halfway between the 2hi and 4hi until the dash lights indicate it received the message from the 2lo module box then proceed to put the switch to the 4lo position.
Installing the 2lo module box, you remove the glove box, unplug the wiring harness from the 4x4 module, plug the the trucks harness in to the 2lo module, the 2lo module plugs in to the 4x module and then put the glove box back in. A simple ten minute process.
I was on the trails and pulling trailers around thought to myself mutliple times that there needs to be something like this 2lo out there to make things simpler that way you are not riding the clutch. Then I was on the heated mirror thread and saw his post about the 2lo module being in the R&D phases and knew it was exactly what I have been telling myself the truck needs. I jumped on the chance to be part of the first batch and it didn't disappoint. The product is great and Jaimes did a great job with it, I can't say that enough. It is everything you think it is.

Whoa! That is slick. I like it, both the operation and installation.

I hope that this can be dropped on a 3rd Gen. Crossing fingers.

    Thanks again for the details.

What's the towing the capacity of the Manual Transmission 2017 4x4 off road?

I believe it should be the same as mine, 6400lbs. (Assuming with the tow package)

Negative, towing for a 4x4 Truck is 6500lbs. Check your Owners manual.

There are a couple of functions involve here - 1) Electrical control of the mode of the transfer case (used to be done with the manual shift lever) 2) Control of the front axle engagement. In my old Type 2, I configured it so that only when you pushed the button on the side of the transfer case lever knob did the front axle engage- Presto - 2Lo buy putting the lever in Low Range and not pushing the button. In the type 3, it you should be able to do the same thing with an external switch (perhaps using a relay to avoid having to have a high-current switch and related wire in the cab.) Label - Front Axle Engage (yes/no) that would do the trick. Anyone with a schematic of this area of the vehicle should be able make this simple. Not sure it would require much circuitry. Clay

Whoa, thanks man. You're right. I don't know where I got 6800 honestly.

TWR is actually 6400lbs. for my TRD Pro per the manual. (Fixed my last post)

To be honest, I'm perfectly happy towing my 3000-3500 lb. setup for the sandrail and don't really want to tow much more without a brake controller etc. (I did notice the brake controller connector is all ready to go on this thing - part of the towing package I suppose?)

Just FYI: Most states require a brake controller for towed loads over a certain weight. They vary, but most have the limit in the 1500 to 3000lb range.

    Wow, thanks. Good to know.
Interestingly, Oregon only recommends trailer brakes. California requires them over 1500 lbs (but can be surge brakes it looks like)

I presently own an 82,84 and 92, all manuals. I bought a 2016 Tacoma off road automatic, it was a fine truck but just not the same. So I traded that in for a 2017 Tacoma trd pro manual. It so much more fun to row through the gears.
