I hate to rant but at my 5000 service I told the service tech I had some shuddering and hesitation issues and he told me I wasn't the first one to complain and it was the transmission shifting and I needed the new ECU update and to call and schedule it done. So I called and scheduled at 7000 miles and after spending an hour at the dealership they tell me I already have the latest update and when I bring it in at 10000 miles maybe they would have a fix. So I called Toyota customer service and they told me the same thing- just wait till 10000 miles and maybe they will have a fix. So I see that there is an ECU update by OVtune for around $700 but sold out. So should I trade as I am greatly tempted to do or wait and spend the $700? Would love to hear from some who have gone through this and if they got the tune and it fixed the issues.

I think $700 is cheaper than a trade in, if your still dont like it thats not to much of a waste to try to keep the car. But to each there own. That’s why I started with a 3 pedal.

read through the OV AT thread and decide for yourself knowing that development for the AT's and all the shifting issues is really just beginning now since he got the test mule just the other day. i would venture to guess that $700 will go a long way since the updates are not charged additionally.

i got the ov tune after having a Pedal Commander and those kept me from selling the truck. OV tune, however, is what you're looking for. I'm on the MT but consider the OV tune a requirement for 2GR-FKS. no tune? no 2GR-FKS... the factory tune is just too horrible, but it's correctable.

Get the OV Tune and then reflash your ECU every 500 miles to correct the transmission learning. Should fix the issue.

I've heard people talking about that on the OV thread and that may have to do with cps sensor if I'm correct. It's basically a 100$ part but there is a Toyota recall for them on certain vin trucks.

Why should you have to spend 700 more for a new truck....Ask Toy to pay or waive a monthly payment.

$700 is a lot cheaper than trading in. I’m part of the less fortunate group on spending nearly 3k to re-gear a brand new truck bc of the transmission issue. Love the truck but hate driving it on the highway. I’m banking on the 4.88s to fix the issue and so far Ive heard good things.

It's funny as shit to hear the Automatic Tranny crowd tell people with the Auto they have to "learn" how to drive it in order to like it. What they Holy Fuck does that mean? Learn how to drive an automatic? Get the hell out of here!

I have the MT and didn't have to learn shit.

How about Toyota tune the truck engine right the first time?

I tried reading the OVtune thread- do you know how many pages there are? Figured asking a question may be easier.

Ok...I’ll bite. Learning to Drive an automatic does sound silly, BUT it’s absolutely true. I experimentd last night on a 8-hour Drive from Virginia to Rhode Island after reading a post about OV vs SSP.
One comment specifically hit home, there is no throttle cable...pushing the pedal doesn’t deliver more fuel - rather it tells the ECU that you want more fuel.
Example: kick down into passing gear doesn’t occur at a set throttle position like n the bad ol’ days. In fact, during my drive home I experimented with seeing how long I could stay in the tallest gear while ascending a slight grade without kicking down a gear. What I discovered shocked me - the slower one applies more pedal the longer it will stay in the higher gear (only slowly decreasing speed until cresting) - sometimes applying what felt like 2” of extra pedal. On the other hand, a quick tap of 1/2” nearly always initiated a down shift.

    Long story short - I averaged 20.4 mpg (19.8*1.03 for 32” tires).
