I was going to answer all this but through conversation you all have it covered. So it does sound like I need to look at starting in the $10k to $12k range.

What's funny about that is I was looking long and hard for a v8 4Runner or gx470. I ended up with a 2011 Sequoia with the 5.7l and it gets the same gas mileage as them. Just took it on a road trip to Atlanta and the sequoia is the ultimate road trip vehicle! I think it even gets better gas mileage than my lifted 2nd gen on 33's.

Turn switch>drive. The torsen has nothing (directly) to do with ATRAC or LSD, it is the open center diff that allows AWD.

Right, but a Torsen dif won't let the front not turn while the back does. Last year I got it stuck on an uphill and in awd only the rear was turning. Therefor it cannot be a true Torsen

Edit: to clarify, the Torsen will keep both front and rear shafts moving at same or different speeds, where as an open will still only send power to 1 of the 2 shafts (whichever is less resistance)

You can easily override a friction type Torsen like that is found in the center differential of that transfer case. It is nothing like a locker.

I never realized they had 4 different types, when I was reasurching all I found was the "original" style that used all gears
