Is 20.4mpg supposed to be good? Aren't these rated at 23mpg highway? Depending on your driving habits, that's pretty disappointing to me. I averaged 23.4 in a 1st gen SR5 4X4 with the 3.4L / 4AT on a trip to Grand Junction CO from Moab last spring.

And drive by wire is BS. I think you mean "good ol days" when referring to throttle cables and kickdowns.

The more I read this forum, the less I want one of these things.

I have owned sticks and autos. I live in a big city so auto is for now. However there is absolutely a technique in driving an auto.

man I keep reading so many that are frustrated and I have an 18 coming in Dec. Im getting nervous and wondering if I should go different route than the Tacoma. I really didn't want to go back to full size so that would have me going from my 16 diesel Colorado to an 18 zr2 but I really like the looks and interior on the Tacoma a lot better. I could go back to tundra but really do not want a full size again. Dang these threads!

I bought mine in Sept. I sold my 10 sr5 and love my 17 sport. So glad I pulled the trigger. The 4.o was strong low end. This is strong middle and high.

Really, your going to decide if you want a Tacoma that hasn't even showed up based on what people are saying on TW. You haven't even driven it yet! :frusty:

No. I was really just saying that I really like the tacoma a lot and been waiting on my 18. Been excited and can't wait. Just read these post and get to wondering but then many say no issues. I absolutely will test drive but like above I should be good because I am doing 4.88 gears and lift.

All in all I like my 17 Tacoma- I have had four Tacos in a row. I gen 1 99 model, two gen 2 models 05 and 11 and now this one. All I can say is I miss my engine and trans. I never thought about it and it had great low end torque. The new one has more features, rides better and is quieter. I just can't used to the shifting and erratic nature of the engine trans combo. I hope they get a fix for it so I won't have to spend the $700 more on it and hope it fixes the issues. I hope OV tune make a less expensive plug in model. It looks as if the whole process is pretty complicated and constant reflashes are needed by the stuff I have read so far.

There is a fix. Buy the manual in sport, off road or pro.

I am done with shifting. I've shifted all I wanted in my time. I drove tractor trailer for years plus owned many early vehicles that were all standard. I no longer drive truck but run ops in trucking company and have for 30 yrs. At 30k miles in my truck i prefer auto

I understand about the shifting. I prefer to shift manually but thats just me. And it seems to be the only to not deal with the surging and having to reflash.

I read it here somewhere but can't remember who said it... If you enjoy your truck don't read these threads. That's solid advice. I daily drive an 89 K5 Blazer with 37's on it and a 700r4 trans. This thing is a Cadillac with a rocket engine compared to that blazer. Sometimes I think people want their trucks to drive and ride like cars, with super gas mileage, plush suspension and a fleshlight. Then get upset that the truck drives like a truck.

20.4 on 32’s at 70mph (not on a flat highway drive) is good in my book. I could get 24 if I did 55mph.
