Everyone needs to watch out. This is real and it’s a easy way to drain our tanks. The repair at the dealer was over 600 bucks.

Around here, guys can drill the tank, slip their bucket under the tank and steal 10 gal in just a few minutes.

Were you using a locking gas cap? Curious if they were deterred from getting gas the usual way by a locking cap and went for the tank like what happened to me.

I thought in most vehicles there’s a filter or something that stops a hose etc getting to deep.

Do they have stuff that can suction through that little hose like that?

If you look at the pic, the hose that is being cut is the one that connects right to the tank. It’s way past the neck. That is why they cut away the inner fender well. I’m not sure how it works but my tank went from half full to 1gallon left. Hopefully it’s just one douche bag messing with trucks around here and not other people doing it. I’m guessing our trucks are a easy target because of how much room is in the fender wells.

There’s a one-way valve (at least in a Gen 1) in the filler tube to keep larger hoses out, but you can use a smaller diameter hose with its end cut to a sharpened tip to bypass the valve.

After my tank got drilled, I put a magnet on the back of one of these and stick it on the side of my car at night where the gas cap is- its range is good and tells me in the house if someone is moving by my car. Keep it mounted high so that it does not trigger on cats!

Seriously what junkie is fucking peoples shit for maybe at best $60 in gas. That's just brainless. Risking potentially their lives, and in the very least their freedom for $60, in gas, not even cash, just gas. :der:

I like the idea, how do you keep it from going off whenever ypu pull up or leave the house, and I would expect if this sort of thing were to happen it would happen not at home so I guess the alarm would be no good anywhere but there?

    This and that...

Hahaha. Saw it crawl back up the next morning. Thought it was some ugly cat until I popped the hood. It started making noise/chirps when I put the water hose in its face.

My tank got drilled in my driveway (we use our garage for what it’s meant to be used for in Southern California, as a converted spare bedroom and storage area :) (not really, we keep the wife’s car and my Honda in there). I leave ithe sensor on the parked truck overnight when I get home, with the sensor attached by magnet to the drivers side of my truck, and when I get to the truck in the morning to drive it, simply take off the sensor and put it upside down under my seat.
