You still never know. It's sketchy as hell cutting, grinding, or welding on any sort of container that has contained and sort of flammable substance.

Sorry about my earlier post. I've been driving all day. I saw the post when I was grabbing a quick bite. I knew I needed to get my concerns voiced, but also knew I wouldn't be able to put together a decent post. I used the only tools my small mind has available.

I knew this thread is populated by many novice welders. No one encourages new welders more than me. I want new people to learn to weld and will answer any question I can.

With that said, when I saw the post about the propane tank, I could think of no way to point out that welding/cutting on a vessel that previously held flammables should not be done by a novice welder.

I just wanted people to know that there is a hi risk of explosion if no inerting procedures are not taken.

As stated earlier, there are many ways to make the job safe, but I don't feel comfortable explaining on an open forum.

I feel much better knowing guys and gals are fabbing up sliders and bumpers and similar type projects.

I apologize for my previous outburst.

Your point being as long as we can still see and move why would we not keep welding ??

With me it was never about the money

In my Youth I remember a real Live Blacksmith still shoeing horses into his seventies

My point is that you should do what you love as long as you can no matter what obstacles are put in your path.

I’m going to get to painting the smoker tomorrow. Expect some pics in the coming days.

I’m pumped to wrap this project up and give it away. BIL should be happy. He doesn’t know about it yet so it’ll be a good surprise. His bday is on Wednesday too!

I so want to load it up w some wood and have it’s first burn!!

yeah when you get used to seeing regular stuff at stores a home built one looks like a tank! but you know the home built one will be far better and hold up much better! I want to see the final paint job on yours.

I left the intake bare metal, I wasn’t sure it it counted as internal or external.

Gave it to my BIL last night, he is pumped to get things going and dialed in.

Looking forward to some brisket and pork butt :bananadance:

I didn’t design them to be removable, so that’s a no go
