I’ve done it with the cans. This will be the first time I’ve done it with the paint gun.

Is it really that bad to just use cans?

I’m wondering if it’ll coat my leaf springs enough to shut them up.

I wish. POs never brought it in for inspection, so I'm SOL even though I'm still in the 15 year window. Idiotic stipulation.

If it were brought in for frame inspection before the cutoff in 2012, you then get to 15 year from your model year (or manufactur date, nor sure) and it would be coated if it passed and set for replavement if it failed. Could be inspected over and over until that 15 year mark. Only applies to 01-04. Older Tacomas were bought back.

Indeed possible. I've used it oh squeaky metals before and it worked.

Yeah the makers say certain rubbers can swell. Another reason to switch to poly bushings!

Yeah I did. Kind of like the idea of it being portable.

My brother got a letter and a call from Toyota the other day. His truck is an 09 and they have a class action suit up to 2010. His frame is good but has a lot of surface rust. He's dropping it off Tuesday and they are gonna remove a bunch of parts and sand blast and repaint his frame. Then he's still covered for a replacement for X amount of years should it get worse. Not sure if it's a dealer specific deal or something toyota is doing to prevent mass frame replacements :notsure:

That’s a deal. I’ll sell my single portable and make enough for the dual. I’ll be in Perkiomenville the day after thanksgiving if that helps.

What Joe said, that's news to me. Would be nice if that were the standard procedure.

Duuude that sucks, and we were JUST talking about this the other day :bananadead:
Hopefully it's sorted out, I'm gonna have to quadruple check my frame when I get home I guess.
If Toyota doesn't do anything for you I'd probably inspect the entire frame and see where the weak spots are, spray or paint the shit out of the inside of the frame with POR and use those auto rust weld on pieces if there's still solid steel around the rust areas. Just my 2 cents

Yeah I know. And here I was thinking I was sitting on the outside of the conversation.
That's pretty much what my approach is looking like. Patch any weak spots if possible and give heavy attention to everywhere else. Unless there's some better alternative, seems like that's the only direction.

Toyota won't do anything for me. Last year or so, when I was at a dealer for something, I verified whether or not I was covered under the replacement program and was informed no. My spare tire carrier just busted when I was putting the spare up the other day, so I will need that replaced per recall. Maybe while I am there, I am bother them about the frame and see what they say. But I have no hopes it'll do any good.

Yeah I know autorust is one. They sell ones that cup the frame on 3 sides. There are also the plates that go on the sides of the frame either to patch or turn C-channel into boxed. Can't recall who sells them though.

Not surprising. The need to address frames is becoming more and more common as they age and take more abuse. Especially ones that aren't covered by Toyota.

I believe trail gear has a box section kit with crossmember (and shock mounts?) Id highly recommend doing that or somethin similar while you're in there welding things.

Ah yeah I believe they're who I was thinking of. But I think their focus is frame reinforcement rather than frame repair.
And I won't be welding anything. No experience and no equipment. I'd be paying someone.

would really be nice if a company started offering aftermarket frames for first gens

there is a company called throttle down kustoms who offers beefed up jeep frames

aside from paying 1500-3000 for a frame alone... i do not see why it is not possible

here is an article about a 1st gen that had repairs done by a rust technician auto shop in R.I.

    http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/body-chassis/1603-toyota-tacoma-rotted-frame-fix/

this site might have some frames for sale
    https://www.partshotlines.com/parts/toyota/tacoma/frame.html

I thought years back bud built had been working on building some jigs in effort of getting a frame offered up... :notsure:
