GEN 2 TO GEN 3

Yes, I suppose it does sound like a recap, BUT that means a lot of folks are having real issues with the Gen 3....just look at the used car lots and you will see many Gen 3 trucks. Hate to disagree with your statement regarding robots but warm human hands are still involved in the assembly process. Quality control plays a big part and Totoya has fallen down on this part of the assembly process.

A note on this.......I have a friend who works for Toyota in a manager position who had a 2016 Gen 3 and traded for a Forerunner. He had many, many, issues with Gen 3. He said enough is enough.

 

There was a time when assembled in America meant something, but that time has past, maybe and that's a big maybe, it will return.

 

I still have hope for the 3rd gens... That being said I did buy a 2015 before the shit storm hit. EVERY new vehicle has growing pains. From what I see they are getting better and the 17's have fewer problems then the 16's. Remember that the 15 was the end of a 10 years run, all the bugs had shown themselves by then. And THAT is why I bought one. Sadly the next truck will be a Tundra. Not that I don't love my Taco, but the access cab tundra is a lot more truck for the same money. Hell I can almost buy a crew max for the price of the new Tacos...

 

That makes no sense, now standard on the 18s.

My regular cab came from San Antonio, or where ever the Texas plant is. Third gens look good, I'd like to get a 15 OR or SR5 v6, or a 14 reg cab.

Its interesting how Tacomas are getting more technically advanced every year, yet Toyota chose to essentially have 3rd worlders produce and assemble those same vehicles.

Yes, it does matter where a vehicle is built and assebled at. I don't belive Mexico is known for producing quality products of any type, are they?

 

Toyota nosense, has me wanting a 2018 4Runner, something I don't need, want, but don't need. I would have already bought a 3rd gen if the RC was available.

I think I'd finance a $50,000 reg cab V6 4x4 if Toyota sold them.

Love the reg cab, but family requires more room. Maybe the reg cab will make a come back once I can kick the kids out.

That's because of their culture, they still take pride in what they do.

 

The 3rd gen engine is only 215 cubic inches. This isn't enough cylinder volume to provide an adequate torque band for a truck this size. Gearing will get it power in narrow bands but responsiveness suffers.

 

I work in manufacturing, it is more important to get it done, than to get it right.

 

Yep, that was my experience. Listened to plant manager lie to customers all the time, watched his GED chemistry skills create, I mean fix many issues. Best one was when we sold product that was made with vegetable only stuff, but we used non veg stuff.

Once a guy gets an idea in his head its hard to get it out how much advise he gets. Usually, I have to learn things the hard way.

 

What sucks is one bad apple makes one think the whole generation is spoiled.

 

Just for curiosity sometimes I go over to the 3gen side and read for a while and I always find myself thankful that I haven't gone that rout.

 

Ya I stay out of there, it's amazing how much better my truck runs since.

 

But, does it run better when you stay on the 2nd gen side?...

 

Having had a 1st and 2nd gen. I would buy a 3rd gen in a heartbeat, but I only buy MTs
