With hunting season starting yesterday, was happy to get the Tacoma i got this summer in the woods. Didnt have any obstacles just basic trails and paths. But man i wish there was a gear between 1st and 2nd (manual 4cyl)

In 1st, as you can imagine, its fine when creeping along but get real jumpy at around 10ish mph and at higher RPM. In 2nd just not able to get enough speed to avoid the sputtering/botting down.

Wish i had a 1.5 gear to select. Outside of that, did great and should make a grea hunting truck... that awesome turning radius already showed its worth in some tight turn arounds

Use 4x4 low range. I do a lot of driving in low range in the spring and fall. Most of it between gears 2 and 4 (manual trans) the upper gears are fine too. I drove 60 miles in low range a few days ago. I don't go over 20 mph in low range, but the manual says keep it under 40.

glad to hear about your rig doing so well but as for me, I wish mine had a granny gear then first could be just a bit higher than it is.

Low range is the way to go in a situation like that. I do it all the time on two tracks, I hate lugging the engine or burning the clutch.

but when towing a trailer and you need to get started in low range can you then shift back to 2h on the fly? Or do you then have to stop and put it back into 2h which puts you right back where you started?

Which is why granny gear would be good.

I think a6spd would be better, but never owned one. My old trucks had a granny first, but did not like 80mph on hwy

Very true but I would rather those high RPMs than having to burn the clutch.

I think you wish you had a 6cyl and not another speed. More speeds would only benefit you at higher speeds not really lower.

I think first is too high on the 6 speed transmission, as is reverse. If you're burning the clutch towing on road, you need to lighten the load. I tow off road a lot, so low range is fine. I have the option of 2 wd low range, so backing up the trailer is fine on high traction surfaces. I intentionally don't tow anything too heavy for the clutch on road.

Yah true, I'll just have to burn the clutch and be happy with it while wishing I had a granny gear, dang it!

Doing forestry work, I've certainly flirted with the limit of what I feel comfortable towing.

When I had horses, I had a one ton diesel.

Maybe the clutch is the only problem. Being supercharged, you should have an upgraded clutch anyway.
