I'm happy with my Toyo RTs, 255/80r17 on FJC wheels, no spacers, minor scrubbing at stock height.

Well, it’s not the most popular, but this is the 3rd time I’ve done it. My two previous trucks I drove for years with ZERO suspension, driving or allignment issues. All I have is the stock OR suspension and 2” leveling kit on the front. My front sits at 38.25 inches and the rear sits at 38 inches. The front will settle over time. And I actually like the look of it being a 1/4 higher.

My apologies. At quick glance I thought those were the stock TRD Pro Wheels.

3" lift kit. 17" wheels and tires, custom grill, full technology package, Early model running boards, Push bar.
guys, I already have some 17 x 7.5" wide wheels, 15 offset. I was just wondering what the largest tire I can get away with on this wheel without pinching the tire too much. I'D like to go with a very wide tire. I have a 3" lift on the 2016 TRD off road

Is that a positive 15 or negative 15? My wheels are a -6 offset.

20171015_091217.jpg 265's float just fine for me. Most of the places I fish/camp start off in low elevation farmland with loose topsoil / mud, turns to waterboards and creeks as elevation goes up, and then rock gardens at the top, about 1400'+ later .

If it's for looks or a size that also gives height that matters to you, go for it. I think this is kind of a "to each their own" topic. Just figured I'd share my side.

Ps best mod, the fishing pole holder. Pretty expensive but came with a free tent.

I see you are in the PNW. Who installed the OME lift for you?

What all did you have to do to fit the 285s?

The 285/70R17 are 33” tires. You’ll need a 2” lift. Taller depending on the offset of your wheels.

I misread the post and corrected it. When I first looked at it I thought I saw 285/70R16 Nitto Trail Grapplers which will fit on stock TRD OR suspension.

I went to 285/75/R16 BFG KO2 AT today. I used to run 265/75/R16. Honestly very small negligible difference. Even the power felt exactly the same as 265's. I should have went 285/75/r16 the first time around. I did a 100 mile mpg test today. Some mixed highway and local and for highway i gained 1 mpg and for local my mpg stayed the same. I dont feel the need to regear. The 285 bfg ko2 tire weighs 59lbs each. The 265's weigh 54lbs each. Not a big difference. Only thing that makes 285 a bitch is the trimming. Other than that no real big difference in the two except a half inch more clearance and looks. Go 285's and dont make the same mistake i did buying another set of tires.

    ver simple:

    256:

    • less rotating mass
    • better fuel economy
    • quicker acceleration
    • improved braking
    • closer match to OEM speedo calibration
    • mileage and mpg calculations more accurate
    • no need to re-gear or buy other ECU/shifting mods
    • no need to trim and hack up the fenderwells

    285:

    • basically, the opposite of all the above
    • potentially need to re-gear to maintain stock driving characterisics
    • transmission is confused and hunts for gears, is not in ideal powerband and shift mapping
    • only available in E load rating (IE hard and heavy), which does not pair well with light and nimble essence of Tacoma
    • + LOOKS PERFECT AND AMAZING from a fit/stance/aesthetics standpoint.
    • + more REAL ground clearance

I ran through this debate for about 4 months before deciding that aesthetics are EXTREMELY important to me and worth the trade off, easily, due to how much of a visual impact they make to the truck. A 33" tire is the hairy edge of needing to regear, but you can probably get by with OEM gearing. If you're going for aftermarket, heavier, larger tires that don't look stock, might as well go with that 285". A 35"+ tire look alright, but is way oversized for the powertrain - and Tacoma is not the right platform for 35's or 37's IMO.
