Just took this pic of the rearranged buttons on a 2018 TRD Off Road (no 4x4) with tech package but no premium package, had cloth seats.

I don't get it. So why relocate the slider button from the left side? There's a blank there anyway? What's that foglight looking button for? Is that the TSS control?

No auto climate control, isn’t that part of tech package? They must bundle that with the leather for premium.

They should have put the ECT button on the steering wheel and labelled it “go”, or perhaps “balls”.

No. The costco deal is a sham. When they give you the VIN of the vehicle they quote, run that in google. Odds are you'll find it at the original dealer with a different price. I did that 3x before buying mine. 3 different "Costco" prices and 3 times it was cheaper from the sister dealer it was actually located at.

The way to get the best deal is to shop across the country and be willing to travel. Get quotes on paper and price compete. It's all about how much your time is worth. If it takes you 20 hours of work to save $3,000, it might be worth it. If you're bad at the internet, 40 hours might only save you $1,000.

Costco literally has people who just try to sign up dealerships for their price deals. It's a whole job in and of itself. Much like insurance companies. The more you can sign up, the more sales you make.

This is why people should shop around and compete on price.

The long blank you’re referring to is for clutch start cancel (for manual transmissions) and is a different sized button entirely (longer).

Honestly the new button arrangement seems like a better use of space.

Does this truck, with the tech package, have auto on/off headlights? If I'm reading the packages right you have to get the premium package to get auto headlights? We had a pretty plain Corolla ('06 or '07) that came with auto headlights. I would be pissed if that wasn't standard on the Tacoma. Seems like it should be standard on all vehicles by now.

Also, I can't believe that the tailgate is still manual lock only, not tied to the truck's electric locks. What a pain for those of us who lock the tailgate often.

So, I would certainly not go so far as to say Costco pricing is a sham. Yes, you can certainly get better if you spend the time and energy and go across the country in your hunt. I highly recommend Costco pricing as a starting point. Then work the Costco pricing guys against each other.

I have to say that in my area, San Diego - and CA in general - nobody wanted to play ball on anything less than MSRP. When I went down the Costco pricing road suddenly I had $2-3k discounts. Yes, Costco was well worth it for minimal effort. I used it to get even lower.

Edit to add, nice price you got on your truck! Hells yea!

on the 16s and 17s you had to have the premium and tech package to get the auto on/off headlights. it looks like for the 18s that's in the premium package, not the tech package. (they split premium and tech into 2 packages).
