Finally got some snow and ice and engaged the 4 wheel drive today. Got home and went out a few hours later to check under the truck. Last time I engaged 4x4 (over the summer) my drivers side seal leaked.

Had that replaced and no leaking from there. However, my passenger side seal has a slow leak.

Did some research and read that a clogged diff breather could cause some leakage.

Thought I could not find the breather but it appears to be located in the hood. Looked at a schematic of the front diff and saw and breather hose identified. Is this normal on a 2012 AT?

In the engine bay there are two hoses next to each other. Maybe the transfer case or transmission? Checked the rear diff no modification there.

Not sure if the passenger side seal has been replaced but I just rolled 90k today. What say you TW?

    Thanks,

    KMR

The breathers for the front diff are right there in your picture. Both are for the front diff. The one with the larger hose is the breather for the main font diff case, and the one with the smaller hose is the breather for the front diff ADD actuator.

Thank you. So the seal leaking is not a result of a clogged front diff breather. Will they fail simply for not engaging 4x4 often enough? Or if it is the original- blowing out at 90k is not a surprise? Also read it could be bearing issue in the diff. If this was the case wouldn't both seals leak?

I’m confused, you first say your drivers side had a leak but it was fixed, and then go on to say that the drivers side has a slow leak?

Damn it. The passenger side has a slow leak.
