No pictures of actual damage. Mostly scratches and minor dings. Worst damage is to top of cab small dent on top and small dent above door, rear cab driver window broken. Mostly minor but every side.

You could always do what may do, to include myself. Fix it, drive it till it blows up, fix it, drive it till it blows up, fix it.....i think you get the idea. By the time you get to 300,000 + miles you got your $s worth and should have been saving that whole time for the next one. Tacos run literally forever and if the engine ever did take a dump from mis care them buy a new engine or jdm motor for like 800-1500$ and go for another 300,000 + miles.

You have missed the point. Current market value is an established value. Proving diminished value represents what you have given up from current market value. Diminished value is a point below CMV that you have suffered. Until you have realized a loss, you do not have a loss.

I agree with the realized loss point. My point was the "established value" (market) is still subjective and insurance companies will absolutely challenge that number and try to low-ball.

And for this you wanted to have it totaled?

So we're not real clear on the situation. You were parked somewhere and the tree fell on it. You mentioned you drove it to work that day.

So were you in your employer's parking lot, and their tree fell on the vehicle?

If I've deciphered that correctly, seems their casualty insurance should be the ones handling this, not the carrier of your vehicle.

    What am I missing?

Regardless, the damage you describe can be repaired properly by the right place as I mentioned in post 13. And since it should fall on the property carrier, you're even in more control of where the work gets done.

A couple of thoughts -- depending on how your body shop reports the damage to carfax/etc., it might not even be a concern. Often they'll just report "maintenance" and leave it at that. Additionally, when I got rear-ended, they had my truck past the time my insurance covered the rental, and body shop covered my rental for the remainder. They're making BANK off of your repairs and they'll do stuff like that to keep your business.

Good thing carfax offers their buy back guarantee on some vehicles. Shady shops like that should be shut down.

Do body shops even report anything? There is no law regarding such. Carfax is a retail business, not a government watchdog.

I thought Carfax was a public records harvester/assimilation outfit. It's why they are inaccurate a lot of the time.

I would fix the cab, then throw a flat bed on (if the bed is trashed) and drive it till it dies, but I like my truck.

Go to a great shop and get it fixed. You'll never be able to tell the difference.

Good point. No I don't believe shops do, it gets reported when an insurance company pays out on a repair.

That is just what I decided to do. The damage was all cosmetic.

According to the Toyota dealer the insurance company reports the damage to Carfax.
