Not sure your love of your truck is going to replace the lack of love for his (especially since he’s gotten rid of it already).

Debating emotions isn’t like debating opinions, so.. I wouldn’t bother.

For all we know, you got the best truck they built and he got the worst. Two different experiences, same vehicle. One doesn’t replace the other.

fair enough. but to make a blanket statement that there are unresolved issues with the 3rd Gen is kinda misleading. I don't argue with anyone that it has had it's issues, but as far as I can tell, they have been resolved. Shame on Toyota for having these issues to begin with, but I credit Toyota for being relatively quick about resolving issues (esp the CPU related TSBs)

I understand you love your Tacoma. I loved mine to. I just don’t drive cars that show this many issues in only 14 months and 19k miles. Really don’t have the desire to rip apart the dash or remove door panels to fix noises. The issues resolved or not Show a pattern of questionable workmanship.

Congrats on your new Tundra! I did the opposite. I traded my 08 Crewmax TRD Offroad for a new 2017 Tacoma. I do miss the 5.7 engines acceleration, but I sure like the drivability of the Tacoma. I can go off road now in much narrower roads that my Tundra could not go on. The traction control on my Tundra drove me nuts, it would start getting stuck on wet soft grass due to traction control not letting you accelerate. I even had BF Goodrich K02's on it. New Tacoma does not do that, its so nice. The 4WD system is so much better on the Tacoma.

Tell me about it. I’m sitting at a barber shop trying not to trip this little bastard who keeps running amok since his mom is apparently useless.

    This.

I don't understand "That's what warranty is for" comments as I have plenty of things I'd rather be doing than hanging out in the dealership service lounge.

Not that it was said in this thread but it is said quite often.

I would prefer that the vehicle not need to go back for warranty.

One or two times may be understandable, but when it's a common thing it gets old REALLY fast.

OP, hope things work out better for you with the new ride.

And while I think your new Tundra is a great looking truck, your Tacoma looked absolutely Boss

I like the tundra. I could see myself doing that. Man a single cab one would look bad ass, of course they don't make them anymore. But it would have to be a secondary vehicle, too much gas.

In my humble opinion, the only design "flaw" in the 3rd Gen that is unresolved is the lack of low end torque.

I just can't stomach flashy wheels on a truck. Looks wrong. And get it a little bit dirty for Pete's sake!!

I like them clean. Wheels are a bit flashy but balanced out by the black color. Each to his own I geuss.

Lemon laws were enacted for vehicles like this. Sorry to hear about your issues, I'd have probably done the same but it does seem like you've generalized from your experience to the entire 3rd gen class which though understandable may not be accurate. Since I was a tike I've been hearing it's a good idea to steer clear of first model year generations.

I understand the mechanical concerns mentioned by @Tony60. I’ve always expected to encounter issues with first year models of new platforms and presume the issues will be mostly resolved through service bulletins and recalls. Like @RaunchBox mentioned, the hassle of repeatedly calling and taking a vehicle back to a dealer for service can get old fast.
