im 18 almost 19 years old and i just baught a 2010 toyota tacoma prerunner sr5 with the 4.0l v6. i baught it knowing i would want to lift it, tint it, audiofy it, and everything. i like the look of the 6" lift but the 3" lift is more practical and i like it almost as much.

the problem: i have no idea what im doing as far as a lift. my last truck was a 1998 ford ranger with a 5-7 drop kit...i want to go up this time lol.

ive seen all kinds of posts about the 5100s, ive seen posts of the spacers, ive been doing my research, everytime i turn around i get different information, probobly due to the fact that everyone drives on different surfaces, and uses their tacoma for different things.

this truck will never see the mud/sand/dirt/water etc. i just love the look of a lifted truck. i drive concrete to school, to work, and to the girlfriends house. i park in a garage every night. and have a covered area at work to park under. i live in louisiana, the roads arent exactly great. i would like to keep factory ride if possible, factory ride is extremely comfortable where i drive but there are fairly major bumps. im looking to not destroy the brand new truck, i just want a few extra inches.

    any ideas?

i was looking at a rough country 3" kit with spacers in the front and aals in the back. everyone seems to be down on those kinds of lifts though. not quite sure why...

ive got about $450 i can spend on this project.

spacers suck. go with the 5100's on all four corners and an AAL out back.

Pro Comp makes a nice 3" lift. It replaces factory shocks in the front and rear as well as the front coils. I put this on my truck and am super happy with it. Ride comfort and handling have been great. The kit costs around $400. It's a great deal for what you get in my opinion. I purchased mine from 4wheelparts.

Another 3" lift I looked at was the Toytec Ultimate lift kit. It has adjustable coilovers up front and replaces your factory shocks in the rear. If you plan on offroading a lot, this is a great kit. This kit costs around $1200.

Hope this was helpful. Good luck!

i figured with the spacers it would maintain a ride similar to factory. dont spacers also break ball joints or struts faster?

I have the Procomp 3" lift on my truck and love it. I don't have one complaint. The ride and handling are great.

    Personally.

    i would go,

    5100's in all corners
    toytec coils
    light racing UCA's
    and AAL

thats a strong solid set up and IMO (no one get butt hurt) its better than any procrap lift

    Look at mine...

I do not have a lot of lift but I like it... It is 5100s all the way around with the rear TSB. I dont know if the 2010 can have the TSB done or not but if not you could add a 1.5" block kit to the rear if you are not going to wheel it and it would not effect the ride. Unless you just really want to run 285s I would stay with 265s and stay under 2.5" of lift or you will be buys UCAs to be able to drive it on the highway. Some people just put up with a crappy driving truck for the sake of the cool looks of the lift... I am 46 years old and want my truck to both look good and be functional... I got over just doing it for looks only 20 years ago. I want it to be correct now.

I do not wheel this truck... that is why I have a prerunner. I have another truck for that stuff. However I like the look and the stance of the lifted Tacoma. I like being able to see in traffic and still have a nice smooth ride.

When I was 19 I just wanted BIG TIRES and lifted as high as possible.... Didnt care how it would drive.... wasted a lot of money and time back then.

mgage10: did you go with bigger rims and tires when you lifted? i cant tell from the picture. how much difference did you actually have in ground clearance on the front and rear fenderwells

I've got 18" XD Addicts wrapped in 33" Nitto Terra Grapplers. I get a little bit of tire rub when I crank the wheel all the way right or left.

Stock has 16" wheels wrapped in 31" tires I believe.

so if i get some 17x9 liquid metal gatlins and p265/70r17s that would be 32s right? it should be one size up. they would fit alright? i doubt i would rub with that size. its not really that big of a tire...

does the truck sit level with the procomp kit?

2.5" Toytec coilvers and 1.5 in rear blocks/bilstein shocks. Factory ride. Stay away from spacers, reduces suspension travel resulting in rough ride..[IMG]
