Wasn’t it all covered under warranty? Hope you love the gas mileage in the tundra...

I had a Tundra and now I have a Tacoma. I also closely watched other forums and compared other full size trucks. The difference between Tundra and F-150 (5.0L or the 3.5L TT) is about 2mpg. You can go on fuelly and double check. It's similar with Chevy too. Those trucks get about 16mpg, Tundra gets about 14mpg. If any owner is telling you they get 20mpg combined they aren't telling you the truth. 20mpg is certainly doable in those trucks on highway at 55-65mph steady cruise. Driven that way Tundra will approach 18-19mpg.

My estimate of going from Tundra to Tacoma is about $700/year less in fuel with Tacoma for every 10,000 miles driven. It's nice but certainly wouldn't be the main reason to switch.

I like the Tundra, but to call it the best quality half ton is a stretch, especially now days. I don't know much about FCA offerings, but Ford and Chevy are putting out some pretty high quality trucks. I owned a new gen F150 and it was a VERY nice truck, and the one I picked over the Tundra. Both nice trucks, but I'd give an edge to the Ford, actually. MPG was on par with my Tacoma and faster than the Tundra. And to note, I am a Toyota guy through and through (owned many Toyota trucks and only 1 domestic--the Ford). I give credit where it's due.

Never buy the first year of a re-designed or all new vehicle. There are always bugs to be worked out.

Curious, I actually switched from Ford to Toyota because their quality tanked. I had the whole line up, Ford Focus, Ford Explorer and Ford F-250, had Fords for about 15 years and my family ran Fords before then. All replaced Corolla, 4runner, Tacoma.

Sorry man, but my F150 got 23-24MPG on the freeway, going about 70mph. Overall MPG wise, I was at 18-19MPG. Tundra was getting 13-14. That's 40% better. And 30% better on the freeway. Combined with better towing power going up high elevation mountain passes.

Personally, I wouldn't touch their small vehicle line-up. Ford's main goal has been focused in one area--the F-series. F150's, especially. All their R&D goes into that. Sure, there are issues. Just like we see here with the Tacoma. But overall, quality has improved (which can't be based on anecdotal observations). Sorry you had issues with your truck. If I were buying a full-size today, it'd definitely be another F-series. The new F250's are fantastic, in my opinion. I am curious to see what Toyota comes out with, though.

    What engine, and rear end?

If you are at high elevations the turbos would make a big difference in power so yeah the F150 would be much more powerful the higher you went.

Fuelly shows both 5.0 and 3.5TT at 16.2mpg, while the 2.7TT is just over 18mpg
Tundra is shown at 14.2mpg. This is for 2017s.

No issues with my truck, it was a 97 right when they switched to the new body style. It still outperforms current Ford F-Series in regards to reliability and quality. It's not just about powertrain, I've seen GPS/head unit failures, power window failures, EPA issues, electrical issues, seats prematurely worn after use. Quality goes down when a truck thats 20 years old and 250,000 miles isn't having the same issues as new trucks.

I test drove new F Series trucks to replace the F-250 and I was so disappointed

2.7L and 3.55. Friends with 3.5L also had about the same MPG.

I've come to realize Fuelly data is not relevant when comparing MPG's. There are too many variables involved. Especially city driving. City MPG in NYC is going to differ from Kalispell MT. All of my personal MPG tests were done on ~95% freeway, at ~70MPH. Over the same terrain and in all weather conditions. There are still variables, but it should give at least some consistency.

Wait, so you never even owned a new F-series, yet it's not as reliable? Sheesh. You sound like the 2nd Gen crowd.

My family has newer F-250s. Why do I need to own one when I get to deal with all of the same issues? My experience and observations isn't magically invalidated.

    1997 F-250
    2004 F-250
    2008 F-250
    2013 F-250

The 97 has held up better than all of them and a reason it was never traded in or sold.

You sound convinced of your own bias...

Ok Moderators, time to get rid of the rift raft. Last time I checked this was "Tacoma World" not "I drive something else but spend my time on Tacoma World because my other truck is soooooo cool!" What next, a thread dedicated to lifted Ford Rangers? If this keeps up dogs and cats will be sleeping together.

    :annoyed:
