Hey guys, I have a really foolish question. When removing the front suspension coilover, if you leave the top hat on, do you still need to compress the coil springs? I want to say no but just want to make 100% sure.

Why are you removing the front suspension?

You can remove the complete assembled coilover without compressing the spring.
