There absolutely is. I 4,500 miles on my truck, dealer qouted me at 31k, then another Toyota dealer said 32k. I said 3-4k negative equity before the first oil change???

I kept it. I think taking it to a Chevy or Ford dealer might be better.

Never tell them what another offered till they explain to you first

Oops. I notice it now. For some reason I read it as 1,750 miles. My mistake. You are right.

This comment made think... you really want to be careful comparing "trade offers". Dealers can make money by offering less on trade or coming down less off asking price. The challenge with trades is keeping all the numbers straight. It works best if your talking total deal on like-for-like purchase.

Conversely comparing a trade on a new F150 vs a new Tundra could be challenging to easily see which "deal" is better.

Yup. The vehicle I will be getting, the three dealers were wiling to go to the price I wanted to pay. The trade value of my PRO varied, as that is where they are making up the difference :)

That was my experience in one sense. I was going to take advantage the 0% for 72mo financing.

Ive had my '17 DCSB SR5 4x4 in Black since January this year. It has just under 5,500 miles on it. No accidents. Ive been unhappy as many are and arent about the engine/transmissison. Paid 35 OTD. I go to the GMC dealer today test drive a DCSB GMC canyon all terrain as a possible trade until the guy tells me he will give me 27k for my truck! 27k! I look at him say really? And leave. I was insulted and amazed. He goes only 8k lose not bad... it has 5500 miles and not even a year old! Haha

You can't expect to recover your taxes and any fees so really that's not as bad as you think.

What did you pay before taxes and fees?

I am not sure what the price are around there but I paid 33k for trd off road in May. Was offered 33k for a trade in on a f150 and 34.5k on a f250 in Texas. Mine had just over 9k miles.

33k for a sr5 seems high to me but might not be for the area. I would try a few different dealerships.

My 2017 SR5 2WD was 32 out the door. 5 month and 6100 miles later Toyota offered me 26 for it. Ford offered 26,5. I took it. So much for that mythical Toyota trade in value! BTW its still on the Ford lot 2 months later, they cant give it away!

Things get murky when you start talking trade-in. Dealers tend to pad the new truck sales price with the trade in cost.

And people shouldn't get offended dealers offer low. They're a business. They're not your friends. Even friends that work at dealers aren't your friends. They're there to make money. Used to be really tough trying to get a clear picture of what your target price should be. Things are so much better these days with all the info you can get online.

Totally agree and dealership across the street sometimes offer more. If I would of bought my truck in Texas they wanted 39,600. Wouldnt move 1 dollar. I looked when I was in Wisconsin by family and got the same truck for 33.

I don't trust no car dealer friend or not! They all want the biggest commission possible.

I think Carmax might be a good place to start on a value.

Just traded my 17 SR5 DC in with 20k miles and got $31k for trade value. The truck I bought was already $7k under NADA and KBB.

    That's because it's a 2wd sr5 for more than 26.5. A new one can't cost much more than that.
