glad to know I am not the only person to plan for an initial outcome that may not be acceptable - or to consider my purchase may someday be a collector item and everyone will want one. Ah! I have an extra and you can only look. No touch!

Shitty service as usual, I'm 4 pages back.

But on Sunday i decided to go to home Depot via Weston Pass since it's been nice and i live right by it. I had seen rigs coming off of it so I figured they had been over. (Turns out that want the case)

I made it up and over the top without much issue. On the west side there was a huge dip and sunk the truck into the snow.

Daylight was fading so i started to clear out from under the truck. I have gloves and a hiking pole... Of freaking course. With no weight in the back it wouldn't get grip and no cell service. Continued to dig out and warm up in the truck. Fast forward 3 hours and it was pitch black and windy. I got some traction and it started to rock back and forth. Digging out the front end i saw smoke, opened passenger door and there were flames on the drivers seat bottom.

I threw as much snow in as i could but it wasn't phasing it at all. After choking on smoke i grabbed a jacket, phone and backpack that were in the truck from work on Friday.

I hiked up to the top of the pass, called my cousin and 911. Then hiked another 1.5 miles to fire and medics.

The seat heater was on high as soon as i got stuck and i left it on since i was getting in and out to hear back up. It and wires that went out and under the truck for the roof rack lights were the only electrical under the seat which is why my guess was the heater. I had two layers on at that point so I'm not sure if the seat itself was hotter than usual.

I borrowed a land cruiser and got up to it this morning... It had been moved from the hole, completely burnt out. We're trying for a recovery and I'm trying to keep the trail open as it's dumping snow now but it's an easy trail.

I didn't get home until 11 that night, trying to work and figure stuff out and feel like shit.

Disclaimer: yes i am current on all payments, have no money issues and sure I'll be screwed over by insurance. You get what you pay for...

I'll throw up a picture at some point. Service is spotty, so it'll be later. :(

So your truck caught fire and is completely burnt out?

Holy crap. Sorry man. As cliche as it always sounds, the most important thing is that you're okay. With your situation a truck is easily replaceable. Your life, not so much.

Let me know when ribbing is okay... I know there's a grace period for stuff like this.

Wow, that sucks. I guess that's a risk we take when we start modding stuff and venturing out into the wilderness :/ Like Madjik_man said, the important thing is that you're ok, and you managed to 'self-rescue'. My dumb ass would probably have just stood there dumbfounded until it burnt out then froze to death.

Damn. So sorry to see this. That pic was sobering.

Here's to hoping you don't get screwed over by insurance. I'm wondering if there's a reason to blame the actual seat heater/heating element (versus anything you added/modified, like wiring), and if it has happened to others. Your insurance company could go after the manufacturer, if an investigation determines the actual element failed.

I'll take a black one...my white guilt is eating me up inside.

Life can really suck sometimes. To echo what others have said, let me know if there's anything you need. Except for money; hard to provide something that doesn't exist.
