Hello everyone, I’m fresh to the Tacoma scene. About a week ago I bought an ‘07 and love it. I just need a little more height for a little more tire. Not much. How high could I go without doing the diff drop an skid plate drop. I’m just thinking 2” front and back. Thanks in advance.

You'll get a pile of answers here, most of which will be correct. And confusing.

Just call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and talk though your goals. She'll recommend the right stuff to meet those.

Keep in mind that wheel fitment has more to do with tire size/rubbing/etc than 'lift' does. So, do you really even need lift, like for some other purpose?

Should be good with that height. I wanna say many start worrying about cv angles at 2.5 inches and higher. I had mine at 2.25 inches before I went LT and had zero issues and didn’t even get ucas before swapping the front up.

Awww come on. We need another wonderful debate about to diff drop or not, right before Thanksgiving... don't we? We need SOMETHING. I haven't seen a "What lift should I get?" thread in awhile.

I can tell you first hand.... I put a 2.5 spacer lift on the front and a 1.5 block + airbag (2.5 total) on the back. I have no diff drop and I have no vibration. I am going on two and a half years with the lift. I will give you some advice... if you are doing lift + tires or lift + tires/wheels I would consider doing them in stages. do the lift do an alignment then drive it for a few days.... if you are happy, add the tires/wheels. I did it all at once and it took a month to figure out my issues (all were caused by a balancing issue).

That’s great advice I appreciate it all. I’m really just wanting a little more height and slightly better stance. I like the truck as is but it just needs a little something extra. While we’re on the subject, does anyone have recommendations of a tire that looks aggressive but rides quiet? I’m all about appearances, A real poser. But I’m honest.

General grabber AT2s are aggressive and inexpensive-ish, or you could go all out and get the KO2s and fully embrace the poser look.

You can go 3" on a 2nd gen and don't need a diff drop. All the diff drop does on a 2nd gen is rotate the diff. You're not going to get enough out of it to matter. Center bearing drop yes but don't bother with the diff drop on a 2nd gen. You don't need to worry about anything with the skid plate on dropping it. You want more clearance not less.

Always been a fan of BFG A/T, not too bad on noise.... But for some reason this time around I went with cooper discoverer stt pros and they were a bit noisey... til I installed RAAMmat...
