Are you saying that from experience or are you just a Nay-sayer?

Back in the day, I was always told the catch can was really only beneficial if the engine regularly saw high-RPM overruns, like downshifting during braking on a track, because of the high vacuum during those periods. I did very little of this so I never went to the trouble of installing one on my VG30E or VQ35DE. Is there any evidence to support that?

Experienced at saying 'nay'? or did you actually try and resolve the same issue with a catch can and it failed?

If I did that I wouldn't trust my advice. It's not a PVC issue

These garbage cans are useless, 2 guys on the f150 forum they made them tried to scare everyone into thinking they needed them too. When the ecoboost first came out they fought back and forth who had the better garbage can. When all you had to do was take 1/16 drill bit and drill a hole in the inter cooler, problem solved. Tacoma doesn’t need it, use good synthetic oil and be done with it. I bet your can fills up more in the colder winter months and not so much in the summer too. Reason being condensation of cold air hitting the catch can which is hot therefore making more moisture in the can. Besides your engine will outlast your frame anyways.

Yes, drill a hole in a boost vessel, that will solve all your problems.
I knew Ford people were always a little touched in the head but holy shit, that takes the cake for today.

No, because the smoke you are seeing at that point is not related to blowby- it is related to oil going into passages and places it should not go because of gravity. Usually it's the oil that's normally in the head collecting in a pool over the cylinder(s) closest to the firewall. It dribbles through the valve seals and down the valves, and boom, there's your smoke.

It's not a failure of the catch can, it's simply something completely different causing the smoke.

You're my hero! I was too lazy to type all that out.
And yeah I banged my head on my desk too when I read that about drilling the IC lol. Speaking of Ford people, you seen this?

Thank you for the descriptive response.... I understand what your saying, but I'm not 100% familiar with the engine design on this truck.

This engine was designed for the minivan. Those don't see off-roading on steep grades too often lol. So it's not really a design flaw, Toyota simply cut cost corners adapting it for the Tacoma not redesigning the head and stuff. And they can always blame it on you for exceeding intended operating range or whatever lawyer BS word salad

Oh, it's just in general with most every engine out there. You gotta have oil in there to keep the cams (or rockers) happy, that oil has to chill out somewhere.
It's why your motor leaks oil if your valve cover gaskets get old and crusty.

Imagine tilting it and letting all the oil run to one side. It will go places it's not usually supposed to go.

Any motor will smoke and leak if you tilt it far enough, it's just a matter of "better" designs that can take more. ;)

    And yes I saw the water-in-sump "I'm doing a flush!" thing before.:bananadead:

...and what size are those threaded holes? Have tried a handful of M and S screws and none fit.

Here's my install. I moved can to the engine mount to make space for my RTMR.
Last imagine shows the amount of gunk collected so far at 18,550 miles in. Installed around 1500 miles. It has a little looser than honey like consistency. And on the top there is some black water like liquid too.

Wow! What kind-of work/job gives six weeks vacation?. The maximum I could make at mine in a years time is about 30 days if you don't take a single working day off (which isn't always possible to make). Im trying to save up mine for the big day.

Well technically it's FMLA, I got 12 weeks off and I am halfway through. I had another baby boy 10-11-17. It's been fun, but I'm antsy to get a paycheck rolling in again lol.

Oh that's why. Congrats. Yeah, when you become a parent we get 6-12 weeks too (though the nature of my job won't allow it), but that'll be long ways away for me. Bad that they won't pay you while you are on your paternity leave though. Most employers do.
