I find these threads odd. I never understood why people even post that they now drive a different car, as if the user base even cared.

If I replaced my Tacoma with something else, I would simply join a relevant forum and would likely never go back to the old one.

What benefit is there from saying "hey guys, I switched..."

I never said your experiences were invalid. But read your post. Makes it sound like all you did was read complaints online without firsthand ownership. :) As I said, sucks you or your family had bad luck. I'm not keen on the previous gen F250's. Although a good friend of mine has an 08 that was bulletproof, which he recently upgraded to a 17. New ones are much better. The 6.2L is a fantastic engine. New cab is very nice as well. The '97 was definitely better looking than its successors, though. Never cared for looks, until the newest revision. The '97 was probably more reliable as there weren't as many options or things to go wrong.

All vehicles have issues. I am dealing with one right now on the Tacoma and it's got 1200 miles on it. Aggravating, as I've never had an issue this early with past Toyota's, or any other new cars, for that matter.

Some people just don't have the patience others do. I spent many trips to the dealership, most useless, spent a lot of time in my garage, bought things that should have been covered under warranty that my dealership was clueless about and consistently found major quality issues I had to resolve myself. Do I love my truck NOW? Yes, absolutely. Should I have had to invest that much time to get it to operate like yours apparently does? No. So I get the loss of confidence from OP... not just someone who can't be pleased. When folks drop $30-40k on a new vehicle by a manufacturer they trust, they hope not to have issues but yes things happen and that's why we have warranties

I agree but I haven't seen anything truly groundbreaking. A few people have had some issues but from what I have seen its been mostly assembly related. I see more complaints than actual problems.

Any maybe it's the dealers. I have has awesome dealers.

you can also make appointments at the Dealership so you can get your vehicle looked at without using the first come, first serve method of just arriving and have to wait in line while the others in front of you get serviced, there are also evening/night hours and also there is a vehicle drop off option as well,in addition they have a shuttle service that will take you to and fro home, in addition you may get a free loaner car to use, if you have an issue with all those options you can do your own service and waste your own time and money at home. the best way IMO is make an appointment because the ordering of parts may be necessary they may not be available and you can make a good appointment time without interfering with your life duties. this is pretty common knowledge.

Understood, but sometimes with the first years of a new model there are bugs to work out and I would still buy another one, I have owned 4 to date...Love Toyota

Yup. But really don’t have the time to haul the truck into the dealership all the time. If I was out of warranty when the ECM chip failed. Would’ve cost me $2500.

The best way is not to keep a car that requires all the mess you mentioned above.

I wouldn't think anybody would. :) Friends and family that have Tundra's have nothing but good things to say (except for MPG). Including some contractors. They're nice, comfortable trucks. I definitely wouldn't complain if I had to drive one.

Not the best situation to be in, but props for the way you handled the switch and the way you handled this thread.

Like many threads on TW, learned some things, got a few good laughs, and saw some of the same old song and dance routines.

Also props to the management of TW, the hard work is showing with some decent results imo, i.e. less drama and shitposting.

I have an unresolved issue for ya...That frame.
It's the same crap they used on the 2nd Gens with just a bead of silicone along the lower frame lip and beeswax inside the front rails.
Anyone ever got under their trucks and looked it over?? Check out yalls welds. Specifically, look at the fisheyes in the undercoating covering the welds. Every weld had this on the 2017 loaner Taco AND my brand-new frame for my 2006 is the same way. o_O
For you folks up north, be ready to file suit and swap frames come 8-10 years. It's inevitable...

As long as mine makes it to next summer...

The RAV4's don't have the same issue with the frames do they? Seeing how they are built in Japan maybe they use a different supplier.
